Vecar Rent a Car, Prague

Rented Skoda Fabia from Vecar over Christmas. Picked up the car at Prague airport after midnight, all paperwork to be filled out before seeing the car - not a problem, normal procedure. Paid deposit plus some extras such as late pick up from the airport but also late return that had to be to their office in Prague. I was then asked by the owners if I could take them home as there was no bus for them to come back - so I did give free them ride home, a little weird.. Car was definitely not new, 40000+kms on clock, very simple interior, all scratches and bumps were recorded on the damage sheet, so no problem there. Car was returned to the Prague office and then the owner took me to the airport. That costs 300kc (remember, I gave them free ride home on arrival :) - still, no problem.

But also they asked for extra 100kc for car wash.

Now, I can understand all of the charges up to the car wash. The amount is not what I care about, it is the principle that bothers me. When questioned this additional, nowhere mentioned charge, the answer was 'This is normal as everyone charges for a car wash...' which is simply not true :)

Overall view - dodgy, unprofessional

Paid, dropped off and never to be seen again at Vecar rent again.

The website for Vecar Rent a Car says it's the cheapest, which it probably is, however this is were buyer beware. When contacted, said in reply that a car was new. 79,000 kms is not new. When contacted with problems, implied that the renter was the cause. Must see the car before you sign ANYTHING. Need to have a large deposit, which will hold your credit on your credit card unless you have a large credit amount available. The car was very underpowered for the travel in Czech republic. This will be dangerous for anyone travelling the expressways and/or out in the country side. The car was a city car.
