insurance sham!

We rented a car via DISCOVER CAR from WIBER rental.

It's worth pointing out that DISCOVER CAR claims to be a car rental search engine with NO additional or hidden charges, and the site clearly advertises that there are no commission or brokerage fees.

I was offered a 135 euro insurance policy to avoid paying the excess in the event of an accident. It should be noted that the rental had been paid for with a Mastercard which ALREADY offers insurance in the event of an accident, but I felt that 135 euros was not too much.

When we received the car, Wiber told us that the €135 Discover Car insurance was not recognized by them.

Weber explained to us that DISCOVER CAR is a third-party merchant site that has no agreement with WIBER, so we had to either take out another insurance policy of the same type with WIBER, or pay a deductible of €1,500!

On our return we contacted DISCOVER CAR, who explained to us that the 135 euro fee was split between the insurance (113.5 euros and a commission of 21.65 euros...even though the site explains in its terms and conditions that there are no brokerage fees!) D.C. also explained that this insurance could not be cancelled, and refused to refund the amount!

Rather than fighting to get a refund of €135, I prefer to use my energy to let as many people as possible know how this site works, which, in my opinion, is a huge sham!

DO NOT RENT FROM DISCOVERCARS

I hired a Mercedes Vito or similar using DiscoverCars and was sent to Sicily by Car in Milan for pickup. When I arrived they presented an Orange battered up Ford Transit and attempted to pass this as being of similar class to the Mercedes Vito. I refused the vehicle and the guys at Sicily by Car agreed that I should not be accepting the vehicle. They told me that they would not be charging me for the rental and that I should request a refund from DiscoverCars. I filled our the refund claim form and explained the situation. DiscoverCars then told me that Sicily by Car had noted this as NO SHOW and that I need to speak to Sicily by Car. Sicily by Car the wiped their hands of this and told me I need to speak to DiscoverCars. Neither of them wanted to resolve this situation. They are both shammers and it leads me to believe that this is the kind of behaviour they carry out all of the time. STAY AWAY - THEY TRICKED ME OUT OF $3300 EURO - STILL NO REFUND!!!

Bad service and unexpected and illogical extra costs

I rented a car in Tangier, Morocco, from Movis Cars on the Discover Cars website.

I picked up the car on August 21, 2025.

I used my credit card to make the reservation and also showed it when I picked up the car.

However, I couldn't get the car because my full name wasn't listed on my credit card. It only listed my first initial and full last name. However, I could have gotten the car if I paid an extra €243. I consider this a very dirty trick that borders on fraud.

I've rented cars elsewhere many times before and have never experienced this before.

I paid the extra €243 because otherwise I would have been left without transportation.

I reported this incident to my credit card company (ANWB Visa), and they agreed with me. They are trying to get my money back. I also filed a complaint with Discover Cars and was told I wouldn't get my money back because the terms and conditions state that your full name must be on the credit card. It all depends on how you interpret it.

Below you can see the communication and extremely poor service from Discover Cars. I will definitely never rent a car from Discover Cars again.

Tricked by DiscoverCars/Surprice Sardinia

I booked a car via DiscoverCars.com with Surprice in Olbia (Sardinia) over 5 months in advance. Upon arrival, my reserved car was unavailable. After 2 hours of waiting, I was forced to rent a much more expensive car with a new contract. DiscoverCars.com denied all responsibility, while knowingly partnering with Surprice – a company notorious for shams.

I became a victim of fraud and collusion between the broker and the rental company. After this experience, I will never book with DiscoverCars.com again.

HIDDEN FEES, EXTRA POLICY, EXTRA CHARGES Our experience was deeply disappointing. The company consistently failed to assist with refund requests, instead placing blame on customers for services that were never used. Despite our efforts to clarify, they withheld the refund unfairly. Additionally, we were treated poorly during pickup, and crucial insurance information was either unclear or not provided at all. The time when we got there, the company Astralis informed us that we have to pay extra almost $700 for the extra insurance coverage and some extra charges even though we had our own insurance policy. We had agreed to proceed with the company's policy and requirements. However, when we arrived at the counter, we were informed that the vehicle was no longer available. We were ready to pay the additional charges and had even provided our credit card, but the staff refused to process the booking because the car had already been given to someone else during the brief moment I requested to speak with my husband. There were no delays or issues from our side.

I first tried rentalcars.com but had a bad experience -- the car rental company offered me a car which was lower class than what I had booked. I tried to contact the rental company but did not succeed, so I ended up cancelling by booking. Then I tried discovercars.com (for renting a car in Sardinia) and (almost) everything worked as expected. As a nice perk, I got a better car than I expected. Only one minor complaint: the car rental company ignored the full-to-full fuel policy that I had agreed with DiscoverCars but I cannot really blame DiscoverCars for that.

My Terrible Experience with DiscoverCars

I had one of the most frustrating and disappointing experiences with DiscoverCars, and I feel it’s important to share the full details so others don’t go through what I did. I booked a car through their website and paid €258 in full. The booking clearly included the name of the main driver, and we used a bank card that belongs to a joint bank account with the main driver – same account, just under a different name. The cardholder was physically present at the pickup location. I arrived on time, even 10 minutes early, and waited in line for an hour. While waiting, I watched other people getting assistance from staff, including someone who had booked cars for friends and was still helped. In my case, the staff member refused to help, didn’t even try to find a solution, and told me to call DiscoverCars myself. I tried to call their customer service three times on the same day, but each time I got an automated message saying they’ll respond in 48 hours – I needed help in that moment, not 2 days later. After all this, they claimed I was a “no-show” and only refunded €129 out of the €258. And every time I explained the situation to them, they sent me cold, copy-paste replies blaming me for “not complying with policy,” without taking responsibility for how poorly the situation was handled. To make things worse, I couldn’t help but feel that the treatment I received was discriminatory, especially when I showed my Israeli passport and ID and got a completely different attitude compared to others in line. I didn’t book this car just to lose money and argue with a faceless company. I booked it to travel and enjoy, and I ended up getting nothing but stress, disrespect, and financial loss. If you’re reading this: please be careful before booking through DiscoverCars. If anything goes wrong, there’s no real support. They’ll hide behind “policy” and leave you alone with the loss.

Has anyone found someone in customer support that is able to assist with an existing case? I am having an issue filing a claim and it appears no one at Discover cars is available to engage or escalate at this point. We had a not so great experience with the rental car vendor (America Cars in Mexico) and they will not release the final invoice for the damage of a popped tire. They do not deny that the damage occurred, or that we were covered by Discover Cars, and I do have the receipt and bank account statement. They just are not providing the final invoice. They are claiming that this is our own fault for booking with Discover Cars as opposed to purchasing insurance directly from them. Discover Cars will not refund without the final invoice. Has anyone encountered this before? Any tips to resolve? Seems odd that Discover Cars would partner with a vendor that will not cooperate in getting them what they need to provide a customer what they paid for (insurance that covers a flat).
