I already did send emails(on which I did not get a reply) asking for a refund of the booking difference that was originally rented at the moment of my booking at 223.02 euro wheras I needed to pay 311 euro when I picked up the car. No correspondence in between to inform about that.

It is not correct that you book a car at a certain price that afterwards is 88 euro more expensive. When the refund will not be done I will no longer book with rentspain/goldcar. Sorry this is a rip off.

Got a good quote for a two week rental, paid upfront for the car but never received my voucher.

After a week I sent the man email and heard nothing. Then I logged in to their web site and saw that they had refunded my money and created a reservation for a car at 3 times the original quotation.

Needless to say I won't be using that reservation.

This company and one of their partners Goldcar are totally unreliable. They will send you a confirmation email with the price of your booking and a month later they will say that the rental company made a mistake and the price is now almost three times what you booked it for. You call and they say that that it is not their problem and sometimes things like that happen. If you insist that they take responsibility, they will hung up on you!!

Hired a car via Rentspain.com from Faro airport. On arrival discovered they were using Goldcar. My mistake for not reading any reviews beforehand.

Goldcar use the fuel full/empty scam where they charge you an exorbitant amount for a full tank of fuel and ask you to return it empty. I returned the car having only used 1/4 tank but any refund was refused. Goldcar would of course go on to rip off the next customer as well by charging them the same even though I had already paid for most of the petrol.

Also the price advertised by Rentspain is les than half what you will actually end up paying Goldcar, so don't be fooled by their prices.

Rentspain are well aware of the scam used by Goldcar and they are seemingly happy to go along with it. They say I should have read the small print. Well, I did, but there was no alternative to this scam other than to try to cancel the agreement and go back to the airport (the Goldcar desk in the airport will not handle these bookings) with all your luggage and start all over again with another (albeit more reputable) company.

My advice is to stay clear of Rentspain while they continue to use companies like Goldcar and avoid Goldcar like the plague.

do not be fooled by the cheap hire price...mine was quoted at 39 Euros and it ended up costing my 135 Euros. As, i was the driver and I didn't have my credit card with me, my travel friend was paying with her Credit card.. Apparently you can not do this, the person driving must be the person paying. The man at the desk had an answer for this, we could both be put on the insurance as the cost of 15 euros each. Then we were charged 70 euros or so for a full tank of petrol that we had to return empty! (almost double to buying it myself at a pump) I had booked the smallest vehicle, like a ford Ka but we were given a bigger car, the fiesta. I didn't even think about this clever con at the time.... they could get more money out of me in fuel. So of course, after driving around the whole week, I still had a 1/4 tank left so they got that out of me. Have now just read other bad reviews about Gold Car and are keeping my fingers crossed they don't take extra money off the credit card for "damages" (of which there were none) or "cleaning" ( it was clean) Felt VERY ripped.... i will never use them again and ALWAYS check the petrol policy first. argghhhhh

I have used Rentspain for about 6 years and I always found them to be good value with very good customer service. Sadly, this is no longer the case. I booked a Renault Scenic through their website for my 2 week holiday in Alicante, Spain. As they are effectively an agent, they sub-contracted this booking out to Record Rentacar. When I arrived I paid for the vehicle (about 650 Euros) and was handed the keys for a Tata Indigo - I'd never heard of that brand before and they assured me it was an equivalent to a Renault Scenic. All I can say is this was an equivalent in the same way that dog food is equivalent to a steak. It is by far the most dreadful car I have ever driven. These cars are made for the Indian market where price is the most important consideration - they cost about a third of the price of a European car. They are underpowered, small, dangerous (they are not rated by EuroCap) and uncomfortable. We were staying in a hilly area and the clutch was unable to cope when we squeezed 5 passengers into the car so I returned it 2 days later and asked for a refund. This process was like pulling teeth with Rentspain saying it was an issue for Record and Record saying it was an issue for Rentspain. After several phone calls and emails I got some of my money back but still ended up paying 260 Euros for a 2-day rental of a truly dreadful car. To top it off Record fill the car with fuel and ask you to return it empty (that old scam) to top it off they charge an extra 30% for the fuel they provide you with. So my advice to you all is DO NOT USE EITHER OF THESE COMPANIES - THEY ARE COWBOYS. There are plenty of hire companies in Alicante they know how to treat their customers and use a new fleet of european cars (mainly Citroen and Renault) and they don't pull the "return the car empty scam".

Last year for Christmas in Malaga, Costa del Sol, I was searching on the net for a local company with a good english spoken customer service, (my wife is from England and is who drives) and I've found Rent-Spain.com.

Filled the online form to book a Cabriolet, they called us by phone to confirm just five minutes later.

Collected us at airport, a very friendly spanish woman, perfect english spoken and the car was also in perfect conditions.

Receiving good tips about the city and routes from her, was an extra service no cost at all.
