Hi,
I also wish that I should have read these reviews before renting car from them. In our case, the car excess rental deposit was $750. We have returned the car within the agreed time but none of them was present in the office to collect and inspect the vehicle. The car was returned in same condition as collected and just to prove our point we have even taken multiple pictures of the car while returning. Since we have a flight to catch on the same evening we dropped the keys at the said place. We were shocked to see that without even informing us they deducted full amount of $750 after 3 days. When asked for the reason they claimed there was a dent. We had already left the country and can not do much about it. It seems this is some planned move, especially when they know that you are leaving the place on the same day of returning the vehicle, in hurry to catch forwarding flight etc
I Wish I'd Read These Reviews First.
I had the same issue as the two previous reviewers. Upon return of the van, the owner refused to do an inspection saying that it was dirty and any damage would not be visible until he had washed it. We had a flight to catch, so had no choice but to go along, since he was adamant about not doing it on the unwashed vehicle.
Upon return to our country,he sent an email saying he found damage on the vehicle and it would cost more than NZD500 to repair it (fortunately we had bought the comprehensive insurance to limit our excess to $500 ). He had a NZD500 hold on our credit card and being some 5000+ miles away there was really little we could do at this point.

Definitely Find Another Company To Rent From
These guys don't even let you know before they level a charge on your credit card for apparent damage that isn't even visible. I happened to check my statement and had seen I'd been slapped with a charge for damage to a van that I hired over night and other than me parking it in my drive way I was with it the entire time. Find another company to rent from

Don't Use Maugers Rentals Ltd In New Zealand
TERRIBLE SHOCK FROM RENTAL COMPANY! PLS DO NOT GO TO THIS COMPANY
My family rented the minibus from Christchurch for 10 days. As our previous experience with car rentals were relatively fuss free, we did not forsee any problem. On the day of our arrival, we were told we had to sign a NZ 500 deposit. On the day of return of the rental minibus, we were told that they will only do the inspection post wash and we have a flight to catch. The vehicle was not that dirty and we did not forsee any major issue. When we returned to home, we were informed via email that there were two dents on the vehicle. We requested for picture which they did send but was not able to see the dents from the picture. Subsequently, few emails were sent to the company telling them we are disputing their claim ( as we had no way to defend ourselves then and there as we had already left the company). They simply ingore us.
