I rented a Dacia Logan for 22 days at a cost of 22 euro/day during summer of 2012 (August). The car was ok with no major malfunctions however the mileage on the car was 110 000 Km way too much for a rental car; the ride was uncomfortable many times due to high mileage already endured by the car on the relatively bad Romanian roads.

We arrived unintentionally in Bucharest (Romania) because of a flight diversion. On a Sunday I needed to find a car to hire that day. My internet searches and the hotel concierge's attempts suggested that all the car hire offices were closed and cars would not be available until the next day. Active Rent A Car, however, agreed to open their city centre office and provide a car. The office is not plush and is on the ground floor of an apartment block - I was not 100% confident. There were no attempts to sell us extra insurance or anything. The car wasn't prepared and wasn't the best I've ever hired but it did the job and we took it over the bridge and drove it in Bulgaria for more than two weeks (a reasonable supplement for taking outside Romania). Their main hire fleet is much more modern. On our return, we phoned from Mcdonalds near the airport and someone came to meet us in less than ten minutes. The car was checked and filled up and we were dropped off at departures efficiently. No quibbles. No subsequent claims on the deposit credit card authorisation. Throughout the men we met were friendly and helpful and spoke enough English for the transaction to be completely clear. The hire charge was very reasonable. I recommend this company if you are going to Bucharest. They rescued our holiday.
