I recommend you read all of this. I booked and paid for a hire car, excluding cover for the insurance excess, from GOLDCAR. I arrived to collect my car from Malaga Airport on 29th August and saw one of their desk agents. He took my Credit Card to make a charge for the insurance excess and said it had been authorised. “Paid online but no car given and no refund”

As the company offered low prices for car rental, we booked a car online from France and paied online 150 Euro. When we arrived at the airport of Cagliari, at the office the employee refused to give us a car saying we didn't have a credit card. That wasn't stated in our French version of the contract we got on our email address that we had to have it and the website let us pay. “Car rental with Discovery cars and others”

Gold car are allowing agents like Discover Cars and YOU Do Spain to make so called bookings on their car fleet. Customers complete and pay on these "agent" websites and get directed to collect the cars from Gold Car destinations at (eg) airports. However when customers turn up for their car they get asked to pay massive extra amounts in bogus insurance additions and airport or other surcharges. I do not normally write reviews, however, if it prevents anyone else from using this company it will be worth it. We pre-booked Goldcar at Malaga airport on the 18th July for a week as we could collect the car at the airport. We were issued a ticket & had to wait until our number came up before we could approach the collection desk. I will never, ever use this company again. I was charged an extra €30 ("for special cleaning)" because we left a Gold Car leaflet in the. We were almost abused picking it up also when they were trying to force us to take out extra insurance. This company will fold because its not ethical in its approach to customers.

Hired a car at Malaga airport. I have 3rd party insurance so didnt want Goldcar's insurance. I wasnt given an option, the woman behind the desk just charged my card. Only when I realised what she was doing did I ask for a refund. Which she did. She then didnt give me any paperwork, I thought I would get an email. Usual story you will find repeated about this awful, immoral company. I booked a car at Faro airport, paid in advance with Holiday Autos so the only transaction I expected on my card was the pre-authorization deposit. This was not the first time i rented a car with Goldcar in Lisbon. I had had a bad experience with them before and should not have used their services again. I rented a car with them again in February. They charged me 75 euros for the fuel on the policy of reimbursement when returning the car with full tank. My story is so similar to others on this forum that I now believe this routine is part of Goldcar/Europcar/Interrent's business model. This was in Gran Canaria. They are obliged to give you a consumer form to fill in for cases of malpractice, overcharging, rudeness or bad service. If they refuse to give you a 'Hoja de Reclamaciones' (pronounced Oka day reklamtheeones) call the local police, who will arrive and insist on pain of prosecution. Your 'Hoja' will be dealt with sympathetically and you will likely get an apology and refund.
I was treated very badly by them, laughed at, told that the faulty handbrake did not matter, would not sign to that effect until they realised that I was speaking Spanish and mentioned the 'Hojas' You may be able to do this from outside Spain and in English... not sure Nil Iligiti Carborundum . The Athens office staff was rejecting my insurance and insisted on buying theirs, for an additional fee. Had no option actually since If I had my credit card used for the guarantee, they could easily hold any amount they like for alleged damages. Rented a car through one of their agents, and bought insurance too. Athens airport staff on my arrival at their office rejected my insurance and threatened me with high damage cost if I did not buy their insurance. Had to buy because I did not to have them damaging my car on purpose and asking for a new car! On top of it, one of their staff members was very aggressive, rude, insulting and thhreatening. The company appears cheap, we hired a car through Ryan air for £90 for 8 days - which included full insurance. But when we got to the airport they charged us €230 euros extra, and when asked they directly said that that was a deposit charge which we would get back. I had a similar, almost photocopy, experience with Goldcar Rental in September, 2019. This Company should be delisted by Ryanair as a car rental service provider. I’ve written to the Tourism Regulatory in Malaga with my complaint without any response.
What a dreadful experience not a single redeeming feature of Goldcar Rentals, never, ever again wil I deal with them and I’d advise all fellow renters likewise!

“Disgraceful Customer Service”

Avoid this company at all costs- their level of customer service is a disgrace. Having hired a car in Spain during November, I was involved in an accident which was totally my fault and I notified Goldcar of the damage sustained upon return of the car at the end of the rental. That stage of the process was fine and the staff in the rental office were polite and helpful- but that is where it goes down hill. My experience on arrival at the Gran Canaria Airport Office was a bad start and it was no surprise that thing went from bad to worse. Miserable staff who couldn't look you in the eye. The car was parked 10 minutes walk away. The car had in excess 12 marked damage. There was nobody available to check the car out. The staff on the front desk blatantly told me I would not get the 22% tax back on the €1600 deposit as I was paying by debit card. I questioned this but the representative was insistent. Basically it was a sales tactic to get me to buy further insurance with them as it meant I wouldn't then have to pay a deposit. I already had insurance in place so only needed to put down a deposit. We arrived at the correct time to collect our car, the large tattooed man behind the desk couldn't find our booking and tried to rent us a car for over 10 times the sum we had already paid one for. They were most unhelpful then we were then asked to leave. This company specializes in hitting you with huge additional fees when you show up to get your car, and if you don't pay they won't give you the car. On our last trip to Spain (Barcelona Airport) we rented from a company called 'Interent' and were horrified to find that it was a front for Goldcar. Appalling service, left waiting for 30 minutes in car park for someone to check my car before hire, this was after spending 15 minutes booking in to hire the car. I checked it over myself to find both front tyres completely bald, dangerous and illegal. Reluctantly they changed my car. Unfortunately I got a Peugeot whereas I had booked a Nissan. The comments about Customer service at Faro totally ring true to my experience in March 2020. I was told her colleague would check the car in the yard but despite 4/5 people laughing, smoking and joking outside none were forthcoming for inspection and very dismissive when asked.

You need to check what you are paying for when you hand over your CC, I was told it was just the deposit but in fact it had hidden charges inside.

Car was booked and pre-paid with maximum insurance cover, on line. At the airport charges were made which they claimed was a deposit held for fuel, and if the car was returned with a full tank it would be refunded The company charged my credit card and I have now discovered that the “deposit” included a duplicate charge for the hire plus extra insurance which I am trying to recover.
