I’ve used Goldcar a few times. New cars, great value, on airport so convenient. This time we somehow managed to lock the key in the car when returning it. The Goldcar staff were really helpful and didn’t charge. They promptly refunded the unused fuel. There was a charge for refuelling but this was clear when I booked and it saved the hassle of filling up before returning it. We have just encountered a similar problem. We booked a car in July and signed the check out for detailing minor scratches to the paint work ect. They have just charged my credit card 230euros and whilst attaching a blank sheet stated with a printed copy of an unsigned check out form detailing no damage. They clearly make claims. Very hard to contact them directly as we booked our car through a third party company who the booked with gold car.

I recently hired a car from Goldcar in Alicante airport. After reading some reviews I was a little nervous. Most of the reviews were from people who booked their rental through a 3rd party and were not made aware of the fuel policy and insurance excess. Easy to turn the tables. Book on their own website. Only book full to full rate on fuel and steadfastly refuse any extras. NOW be prepared to leave an excess of around £1000 on your credit card + a payment for a full tank of fuel up front. NEXT either risk it or buy separate excess insurance policy, daily or annually. Hired a compact car (turned out to be a almost new fiesta) from Goldcar FARO for 2 weeks. Was very apprehensive given the poor reviews but everything was fine. Only a 20 minute wait to get the car at the airport. They try very hard to sell you the extra insurance, but several firm but polite no thankyou's and they get the message. I've hired with goldcar many many times & if you don't want to be back on here writing a bad review then read on. Book the car directly with Goldcar on their website & avoid the 3rd party. Take out the super relax insurance with goldcar & not a 3rd party one that you have bought in the UK that covers you for 12 months. I have to say my experience bears no resemblance whatsoever to that described in the posts here. We were seen to within 5 minutes of getting to the desk, by a most charming, well-spoken (in English) young man and ended up with a 1 yr old Alfa Romeo Giulietta (had simply booked a "compact category" car) in excellent condition. And who are you then "Ari11"? If there's any joker around here it has to be you! I am the guy who posted the 5* comment, I stand by everything I wrote, I have the evidence to prove it (fully itemised invoice) but am not evidently prepared to divulge details on-line as I do not wish sad people like you pestering me for ever!
Keep using Avis/Hertz/Europcar or any other rip-off merchant you like if are happy to throw your money out of the window, I'll stick to Goldcar, thank you.
BTW I have never met/heard of/even cast eyes on Victoria R but you'll find that it isn't unusual for business people to respond to positive - even sometimes negative! - posts. Some people regard it as good manners, but then you wouldn't know about these.

I have used Goldcar many times now and have not had a single problem with them. Always get a new car, yes you pay for a full tank of fuel but remainder always gets credited back to my account. In most cases the credit has taken place before I even get back to the UK which is pretty amazing. I always take the extra insurance with Goldcar because it is not worth arguing about but never accept the first price, you can get it less than half the original asking price if you question it and be polite… Read Full Review

I agree with the above if you're lucky enough not to have a problem. I too paid for the additional insurance and petrol but still worked out cheaper than others. Yes there was a que and the guy on the desk was so rude I found it embarrassing. I left the airport not knowing a whole lot as they don't check the cars but the guy on the desk assured me that with the insurance I had taken out I 'could burn the car to the ground' if I wanted to so I thought nothing of their relaxed approach and got on with my holiday. It was only when I had to ring them as I couldn't get into my car because the key wouldn't work on the 7th day that I had my issues. Firstly they accused me of swimming in the sea with my keys, secondly they took away the car and then told me to go the airport to pick up a new car (3hr roundtrip and yet to be refunded for my taxi- 100 euros) and now they can't tell me where the original car is to be pick up my personal belongings (approx £500 worth) and keep telling me they will call me- on the 3rd day of car being returned and still no phone call! Therefore I have to keep phoning them approx 20 mins every time- not only a waste of my time but a nice phone bill to come back to when I get home! To be frank they do not care about me or my belongings, I now have a choice of contacting the police or keep on chasing but I would like to get on with the rest of my holiday preferably with my belongings! So I think I'll be heading down to the police station in the morning.

I did my research before I took out the car and thought I could live with queuing and being sold insurance but their customer service when you need it is criminal. I would never use them again and no one should recommend this company.

First used Goldcar in 2013 queued for about one hour at Alicante airport (not the best ) but thought it worth the wait as on line price was such good value and there were same wait at Record and Firefly. We payed for the extra inusurance cover. During the holiday we had a puncture. Goldcar directed us to there local office in Denia where we were given a replacement car , no quibble. Of course it is one of them (pseudonym Victorias)! This Spanish company is deeply deceptive, and has lost all its credibility over many years. They live on deceiving new customers, with their fake promises at the beginning, and then dish out all the extras and fake damage claims.

Avoiding them, and exposing them!!
and perhaps a legal class action if there is any lawyers among us?
