Most reviews for Goldcar are terrible, I for one shall not use them again having been left at the airport without a car, had to get a taxi, then Goldcar found our booking after we had gone and said they would charge us a €50 fine for a no show. We were there at the right time but they couldn't find our booking till later. Terrible.

I certainly don't work for GoldCar! When I returned my vehicle there were other customers doing the same who all seemed happy with the service they had received. I wonder if GoldCar is a franchise and thus the quality of service varies from country to country? I wonder if Zehcnas works for another car hire company?

The car I rented was scraped in a car park in Muros. I dropped by the Santiago airport office to report it, fearing the worst. To my surprise, the staff at the Goldcar office were incredibly supportive. They helped with photocopies for my insurance claim and even offered a replacement car. Good people in an hour of need! “Book Direct NOT through third parties for true costs”

I am amazed at the reviews on Goldcar and many other car hire companies. Firstly, why oh why do people use third party companies (Holiday autos, Auto Click etc) instead of directly with the hire company. I expect it is because it appears cheaper through them than the hire company. If you book on line via the hire companies website all is 100% clear. Since I don't have a credit card, GoldCar was one of the few companies that I could hire with just using a debit card. I booked through Bravo Car Hire, who provided me with a car hire voucher and gave great customer service. I have used gold car on 6 separate occasions and have always been happy. Always have a good new clean car. Because I have used them before they keep details in file so once you eventually get to the counter it is quick and easy. I have an annual uk insurance so don't pay their insurance and they just take my credit card details and then refund me. The only problem is the que's. All the car hire companies are playing this game with the fuel, but gold car puts a mark up of 100% on there fuel. They charged you £58 for a tank of fuel that in reality cost £22. Another thing they do is charge credit cards in the currency of the card issue country with a poor exchange rate. Not in the currency of the country your in. Gold car don't tell you this and you don't even get to read what your signing for as you have to sighn a glass plate not the actuall paper contract.

Please take into consideration that our Flex Fuel plan includes a handling and administration fee for our Fast Return Service. Thanks to this, customers don’t have to worry about refueling close to the office before returning the car or wait for it to be inspected. Regarding currency, customers are charged in their own currency by default, something we are authorized to do, but they always have the option of selecting the currency they would like to pay in.

The only person who can authorise the charging in the user's home currency, is the cardholder.
How can they have the option of selecting the currency, if you suggest that you have already charged them in their home currency by default?

Apparently unlike most people here, I actually read the terms and conditions and knew exactly what I was getting in to before I rented. I knew about the full/empty or full/full options. Sorry not to trust you on this review; you must be a Goldcar employee or have been paid for this review!
Even if you take the time to ready the small printed several page long T&C, the rental turns out to be more expensive than any other reputable hire company. Goldcar puts out a bait with a cheap looking offer, and once they have hooked you, they will try to find any reason to make you pay a multifold of the initial fee. This has nothing to do with you being smart at reading Terms, but to charge you along dubious methods that are not common. And when it comes to blaming pre-exisiting damages onto your account, this takes a fraudulent turn!

You are either lucky with your minority experience, or you are lying about the good deal you are pretending to have had - as simple as that!

We rented a car (VW Polo, almost new - only 2000 km on speedometer) in Girona airport for 4 days. We traveled from Spain to France – that’s why we paid additional insurance abt 35 Euros. We took full/full fuel policy which means you get a car with full fuel tank and leave a deposit 88 Euros and if returned with full tank You get these money back. OMG ! A good review about Goldcar. I have to say you are definitely in the minority. Most of the feedback is absolutely dreadful and from everywhere that they operate. Charges forced on you when you try to collect by way of additional insurance which you are initially lead to believe is included, charged for a full tank of petrol at astonishing prices, so called 'extras' not actually specified, asked for or wanted. Typically charges can rocket to treble of what you were originally quoted. Now that hardly stands as a recommendation does it? Now don't take my word for it, read the reviews, they are on several forums and should stand as a warning to anybody considering using this operation.

Forewarned is forearmed... I am really very thankful to all these negative review as they helped me to avoid any problems with Goldcar. I have very limited experience of car renting. The price for full tank of my VW Polo was 88 Euros, really overcharging. But I had 2 options while booking - 1) flex fuel (thay call it but not mean it if you take for more than 3 days) which would cost me 35 Euros for 4 days or 2) full/full fuel policy which costed me 53 Euros for the same period. Also it seems natural that if you don't want full coverage - you should make a guarantee leaving a deposit. I just think if you deal with such a tricky Co, You should know the hidden details. In that case - yes, I can recommend Goldcar.

Please note that the 3 day limitation for our Flex Fuel plan ceased to be implemented this January 2014. Since then, unused fuel is always reimbursed, minus a service and handling fee. Allow me to punctuate that rental staff are only allowed to accept credit cards at our counters, even if payment online was made with a debit card.

We hired a car from Goldcar for pickup in Mallorca airport. Similar to other companies such as Easyjet and Ryanair, the 'headline' price was much cheaper than the competitors, but that is just the base price - other elements such as insurance and petrol are not included and are charged extra. Please do not expect to get a really cheap hire car - it is unreasonable to expect a company to hire a car for prices so much lower than it's competitors. Some of these positive comments make me wonder whether I was on the same planet at the time, the bad ones all seem to have a certain commonality but it's the good ones that get the most laughs. The reason for this is that in view of the absolute avalanche of bad feedback 'good ones' seem unbelievable and I have to say, they are far and few between. The best deal is to get a taxi to your destination and then have a leisurely look around for good deals, you know what you're getting from square one with no 'surprises' in store. Unless you're desperate of course which few of us are on holiday! For those on a tight budget, unexpected additional expenses can be a disastrous start to a holiday.

Thanks for your comment. I haven't read your review on here, but as you have commented on my review and another recent positive review, I guess you had an awful experience. It is slightly unfair to say that my good comments are laughable, the review above is my honest opinion and an unbiased reflection of our experience. That is the whole point of review sites, so the company and customers can both get honest opinions from past customers, whether they are good or bad.
As an update, a month on, no charges have been made to our credit card, and we still stand by our review. Thinking back, I do think that the bad reviews on this site may have softened the blow of the wait at the airport, we were expecting it, so it didn't seem bad. However, I must state again that this wait was caused by other customers who were unprepared for check in, not by the staff. We saw some really unacceptable behaviour and language at check in desk by some customers...
In summary, I think that any potential customers can improve their experiences of Goldcar by reading the reviews on here and other sites, reading the terms & conditions and calculating the final price before deciding which company to book with, but most importantly, take an open mind with you and treat any staff you may encounter as you would wish to be treated. Wishing you all happy future travels

My second rental with this company at Malaga airport proved to be very good. Admittedly arriving at 20:30 on Sunday evening meant that there were only 5 clients waiting, all dealt with in a few minutes by 3 pleasant staff. The extra costs for fuel and insurance were explained clearly and when I declined the latter because I hold an annual policy there was no hassle or excessive demands. I had a 10 day hire of an economy car in April which turned out to be a VW Polo. Had to wait 50 minutes at check in due to the time taken by other parties to have their questions answered. Do people not read the T&Cs when they book? These people should be handled separately to allow us seasoned renters a faster track without having to pay a premium!! I think this review is by the company, not a real reviewer. There is NOT one happy customer with Goldcar. They live from ripping off holiday makers once, and move on to the next.
It is only through forums like this that their fraudulent practices are uncovered. And whilst their registration in Spain puts them out of reach of UK authorities (such as FCA), they will get their fair answer by the consumers.

As to Victoria (or whatever the real name is, there must be many people answering to the many complaints, so it is likely a pseudonym), "she" promises to look into matters, doesn't resolve them, and only wastes people's time.

Desk located in a good place at the airport. You can get a great good deal here, but you can get disappointed more often than we’d like. Cars always excellent.
