I scoured the internet for car hire in Crete and came across Eurocar just outside Rethymnon. I wish now that I had gone with a better car hire company. The Suzuki Jimny I hired was a little cheaper than others though: Was really old and battered; Had a gearbox that was as rough as a old boot; Squealed like a stuck pig for the first 5 minutes on start-up; and Had no radio. All in all, really rubbish and made driving in a beautiful country unpleasant. I would never use them again.

The staff at the Heraklion Europcar are rude and extremely intimidating. On arrival, the man behind the counter would not take no for an answer for additional insurance, despite me having already insured in the UK. This was an additional significant cost. The only explanation was well you hired a cheap car what do you expect. We were then presented with a very old Skoda Octavia. Certainly older than the 6year old greek legal limit! The car served its purpose, a family car for a family holiday on an island. When returning the car we were informed that it was "too dirty", apparently you are not allowed a bit of sand in the car. They then took the car away. Again, the staff were rude and unhelpful, attempting to charge 40Euro as an additional charge, when we said we would get it cleaned at the garage, we waited over an hour for the car to be returned and it did not appear again. At one point the man serving us attempted to intimidate my husband by "getting in his face". The worst customer care I have ever experienced. DO NOT USE!

I arrived to Manchester Airport Having booked a car though Retalcars.com. BE WARNED , SMALL PRINT , I produced a brand new Licence / both parts to home address , I produced a valid Credit Card , I produced RBS Credit Card Letters to show same address on Licence , I gave home number so they could confirm address. Because I don't pay the utility bills , could not produce them in my name only my parents name they refused to give me a car and changed me 3 days rental. Its in the little blue hyper-link TC , so small you will miss it. So if EUROCAR decide this is insufficient you must pay and no car!!! I walked 3 paces over to AVIS and got a car on the spot no need for any bills for your gas or electric and no stupid questions. Happy Driving with AVIS DON'T BOOK WITH EUROCAR

Eurocar did not bring our rentalcar as promised, ignoring phone calls and emails. NEVER RENT FROM EUROCARS, THEY ARE GREEDY LIARS! Crete July 2013

In fact given a choice between this company and the plague, take the plague. Very old car which kept overheating. Bits falling off it. Air con didn't work in temps of 37*. Price hike at the airport. Could have bought the car in the UK for what we paid to hire it.When we emailed for a replacement car we were completely ignored. We were worried it wouldnt get us back to the airport to come home. When we returned the car we felt like parking it in the sea. No redeeming features. Take heed of the old saying you get what you pay for and if something looks cheap there's a reason for it.

Booked online and secured two cars a Hyundai Accent and a Fiat Punto at a price of £379 & £326 Euros. We printed off all the email confirmations and took them with us, however this proved of no use whatsoever!! Upon arriving at the airport the contact Miron, kept us waiting for well over an hour before he finally showed his face. When he did he claimed he would need 575 euros for each car dispute us having the printed confirmation. After much discussion he called his boss another Miron (don't think he realised we had heard his name so was obviously playing a game) who refused to budge on the price or honour the written quote - in fact I am convinced there was nobody else on the other end of the phone. Eventually we refused to be bullied and hired the cars direct from Budget (who were amazing) at the airport. Be warned Cretecarhire-eurocar are crooks, they prey on trusting tourists and expect you to cough up when they hike the prices as you are made to feel there is no other option. DO NOT USE THEM THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!!!!!!

We were told that we would be met at the airport with the car. This never happened. When we called 'Miron' and he yelled directions at us. We struggled to find the location but when we got there we were told that there was no car booked (even though I had the email confirmation printed out). He then told me that they could organise a car but at a way dearer price. I explained that I had been quoted this price (had the email with me) but they refused to accept it. We (like so many others) really had no choice and in the end after lots of yelling were forced to reach a 'compromise' as they refused to charge what had been quoted. They then showed us the car. I had booked a nice Toyota hatchback but what we were given was a tiny, two door, beat up car. They then charged us for a full tank of petrol in addition to the car hire. These people are complete SCAM ARTISTS. They then gave us a very dodgey vague map and sent us off to find our hotel 2 hours away.

The Eurocar web site uses the same colours as they use in Europcar, the international company. And it seems that they also try to imitate Eurocars, the very well recommended Cretan car rental agency, because the original name was Shinarakis car rental, and they changed it to Eurocar only some years ago when Eurocars was already very successful.

We have just returned from Crete and I felt that I just had to write a review about this company. On our nighttime arrival at Chania airport we were taken to the rental car which was conveniently parked in a dark spot so that we could not see what a poor condition the car was in. Having driven to our hotel it did not long to realise that the car was in very poor condition, certainly not new as advertised on their website and in fact it was dangerous to drive. The brakes were dreadful and not safe for driving on the small, windy mountain roads. The windscreen wipers were equally poor, the interior was dirty, we even found a glass of brown liquid that had been left in the drinks holder. The final frustration came when the car refused to start. We had asked to change the car but Eurocar were very unhelpful. I would never use this company again and would not recommend them to anyone. I have only given a one star rating because it is not possible to give zero.

Price was realy cheap but you get what you pay!
You will get an old car with a lot of miles and bumps, all service indicators telling you to do service, tires which are not ok and in my case even the dynamo indicator was on and the doors were no opening.
After one week the car would not start and it took them 5 hours to
contact me by phone and in these 5 hours they were not reachable on none of the 2 numbers and not on the mobile.
Service was promised to be done in next morning (20 hours after I reported that car is not starting!). This schedule was not kept and after a lot of calls and some fighting over the phome I got instead of a group E car a groud B car for one day.
The replacement of the group E car was in the same bad condition as the first one and was handed over absolutely empty like the all the cars. So they got 56 Lites of gasoline from me without reparation and I am still fighting to get the reparation for the gasoline and the 1,5 days without a car and the 1 day with a smaller car.
So if you want an non maintained clunker for the cheapest price you can get
and are willing to give away gasoline for free and in case of emergency wait one day till they help you this is the right company for you!

This company failed to deliver a car as scheduled, leaving my family and I wasting time in the hotel lobby. My husband called 45 minutes after the originally scheduled delivery time and was told delivery would be late due to the late return of the car we were to rent. My husband was told the car would be delivered in 30 minutes. It is now nearly two hours later and the company won't even accept any phone calls. The hotel manager was able to contact another office of this company and they said they delivered the message to the manager, who refuses to talk to the hotel or us! Unbelievable!

I was interested in hiring a car by "Crete Car Hire - Eurocar" in the October special offer "Cheap Car Hire Offers for October 2009 - Chevrolet Matiz: 125' for 7 days"
I received an email confirmation that the Matiz is available. When we arrived at Chania's airport, there was a person from Cretecarhire-eurocar with Fiat Punto instead the Matiz and the person said this is what we have for you "yes you wanted the Matiz but nothing wrong with the Punto".
The Radio was not working, the wiper were very noisy and do not clean the window properly. Few times could not start the car immediately. Once we had a long drive like 2 hours, the engine gets warm, the car did not stop but the yellow sign of the engine appears.

I've made a reservation for a Hyundai Matrix for 14 days.
According to the Eurocar Crete Car Hire website were I made the reservation the price was suppose to be 400 euros, all insurances and chidren seats included (wich was really cheap).
Surprisingly, the confirmation of reservation I received 2 days later didn't mentioned any pricing?!...
I asked for the "all inclusive pricing" by mail. Response: 550 euros!!!

Eurocar Crete Car Hire website states that customers are covered by insurance in the event of an accident that isn't their fault and that this is included in the car hire price quoted on the internet. When we got to Chania, we were told that we would have to pay an additional 90euros for this cover. Being hot and tired after a long journey, I foolishly paid. It was only later that I realised I shouldn't have. On return to UK, I emailed to query this and ask for an explanation and, guess what? they never replied to my numerous emails. I thought their low hire price was too good to be true and I should have remembered the old adage: if it seems to good to be true, then it probably is! Needless to say, I'll never use them again.

I would not recommend hiring a car from Eurocar. The car was old and dirty. Nothing good to say.

Take a copy of the terms and conditions if you do use this company. Do not agree to pay for any extra charges, Miron might seem nice but be on your guard.

Be warned, using Eurocar Crete it is not a good idea, it is a waste of money and time on holiday spent messing about.
