We have booked in advance a car from Stevens Car Rental - an automatic one, hoping that this will help us feel more comfortable when driving on the left side - not to think of manual changing and concentrate on the left driving.

At the day of our landing the guy from Stevens Car Hire was waiting for us, he showed us the car and asked one of the boys to sit in it - so he did it and started looking around as this was his first seating in a car on a right side as a driver. At this moment the guy from Stevens said "Sorry, I cant give you the car" - just like that ... The explanaition was that we didin't look like we know what to do with atumatic car ?! And his opinion was based on a few seconds in which our friend just sit in the car. He started explaining how expesive it can be if someting in the automatic car breaks and that's why we couldn't have the car... We were shocked as nowhere in their terms&conditions they note that you should have experience with an automatic car, nor that you should have experience in left driving, nor that they make a test of you skills on the airport parking ?!?! This guy didn't event tell us that he would test our driving skills or something like that - he just said "please sit in " and then "i can't give you the car".

So this was a great start of the holiday - cancelling your rent a car at the airport, leaving you on the parking with all your luggage. He didn't even suggest to help us find another car - nothing. Just said "bye" and left us there wonderting what to do.

I agree that they can be worried about their cars and stuff BUT those things should be noted to customers in advance, letting them know that they have special conditions for hiring their cars. Surprising you at the airport that you no more can a booked rent a car, when in Cyprus it's a must to go anywhere - this is no good customer service!

Luckily Petsas car rental had a free car - it was cheaper than Stevens even though booked last minute and much newer and bigger! They didn't make any "test" of our skills, we had a great experience driving the car, no problems, perfect service - really recomment them!
