Smooth Rental Experience, but Unfair Exchange Rate Policy

I recently rented a car through Discovercars, and overall, the experience was smooth and hassle-free. The booking process, car pick-up, and drop-off went perfectly, and I also purchased insurance to cover potential damages. Unfortunately, I caused a scratch on the car and had to file a claim. The claims process was very straightforward, quick, and the reimbursement was processed promptly. However, I noticed an issue with the exchange rate used for the reimbursement. I paid the damage fee to the rental company in euros at a rate of 0.9551 CHF per euro, but Discovercars reimbursed me using a rate of 0.9164 CHF per euro. This is significantly lower than the official 52-week low of 0.9206 CHF per euro. For a claim of around 1'000 Euros, this resulted in a difference of approximately 40 CHF, which feels unfair and unclear as to how the exchange rate was determined. While I appreciate the overall smooth process and good service, I believe the exchange rate discrepancy should be addressed to ensure fairness for customers.

Terrible Experience – Avoid This Company Our flight to Madeira couldn’t land for over three hours due to severe weather conditions and strong winds (which is common, as this is one of the most challenging airports in the world). Because of this unavoidable delay, we arrived late, and the car we had booked was canceled without any flexibility or understanding. To make things worse, they refused to refund our money and spoke to us in a very aggressive manner when we tried to explain the situation. This was completely out of our control, yet they showed no empathy or professionalism. I strongly recommend reading their terms very carefully and honestly, I would advise against using this company at all. There are many better rental options on the island that treat customers with respect.

Car cancelled upon arrival due to 59 minute window

Had a contract with them to pick up a car thru magic island rent a car in Madeira. Flight was a bit delayed, by the time we got to picking up the car we were told it is past the 59-minute grace period and they cancelled it with no refund. Nowhere in the Discover cars contract did i find any reference to it and we had to pay significantly more elsewhere for a last minute rental.

insurance sham!

We rented a car via DISCOVER CAR from WIBER rental.

It's worth pointing out that DISCOVER CAR claims to be a car rental search engine with NO additional or hidden charges, and the site clearly advertises that there are no commission or brokerage fees.

I was offered a 135 euro insurance policy to avoid paying the excess in the event of an accident. It should be noted that the rental had been paid for with a Mastercard which ALREADY offers insurance in the event of an accident, but I felt that 135 euros was not too much.

When we received the car, Wiber told us that the €135 Discover Car insurance was not recognized by them.

Weber explained to us that DISCOVER CAR is a third-party merchant site that has no agreement with WIBER, so we had to either take out another insurance policy of the same type with WIBER, or pay a deductible of €1,500!

On our return we contacted DISCOVER CAR, who explained to us that the 135 euro fee was split between the insurance (113.5 euros and a commission of 21.65 euros...even though the site explains in its terms and conditions that there are no brokerage fees!) D.C. also explained that this insurance could not be cancelled, and refused to refund the amount!

Rather than fighting to get a refund of €135, I prefer to use my energy to let as many people as possible know how this site works, which, in my opinion, is a huge sham!

DO NOT RENT FROM DISCOVERCARS

I hired a Mercedes Vito or similar using DiscoverCars and was sent to Sicily by Car in Milan for pickup. When I arrived they presented an Orange battered up Ford Transit and attempted to pass this as being of similar class to the Mercedes Vito. I refused the vehicle and the guys at Sicily by Car agreed that I should not be accepting the vehicle. They told me that they would not be charging me for the rental and that I should request a refund from DiscoverCars. I filled our the refund claim form and explained the situation. DiscoverCars then told me that Sicily by Car had noted this as NO SHOW and that I need to speak to Sicily by Car. Sicily by Car the wiped their hands of this and told me I need to speak to DiscoverCars. Neither of them wanted to resolve this situation. They are both shammers and it leads me to believe that this is the kind of behaviour they carry out all of the time. STAY AWAY - THEY TRICKED ME OUT OF $3300 EURO - STILL NO REFUND!!!

Bad service and unexpected and illogical extra costs

I rented a car in Tangier, Morocco, from Movis Cars on the Discover Cars website.

I picked up the car on August 21, 2025.

I used my credit card to make the reservation and also showed it when I picked up the car.

However, I couldn't get the car because my full name wasn't listed on my credit card. It only listed my first initial and full last name. However, I could have gotten the car if I paid an extra €243. I consider this a very dirty trick that borders on fraud.

I've rented cars elsewhere many times before and have never experienced this before.

I paid the extra €243 because otherwise I would have been left without transportation.

I reported this incident to my credit card company (ANWB Visa), and they agreed with me. They are trying to get my money back. I also filed a complaint with Discover Cars and was told I wouldn't get my money back because the terms and conditions state that your full name must be on the credit card. It all depends on how you interpret it.

Below you can see the communication and extremely poor service from Discover Cars. I will definitely never rent a car from Discover Cars again.

Has anyone found someone in customer support that is able to assist with an existing case? I am having an issue filing a claim and it appears no one at Discover cars is available to engage or escalate at this point. We had a not so great experience with the rental car vendor (America Cars in Mexico) and they will not release the final invoice for the damage of a popped tire. They do not deny that the damage occurred, or that we were covered by Discover Cars, and I do have the receipt and bank account statement. They just are not providing the final invoice. They are claiming that this is our own fault for booking with Discover Cars as opposed to purchasing insurance directly from them. Discover Cars will not refund without the final invoice. Has anyone encountered this before? Any tips to resolve? Seems odd that Discover Cars would partner with a vendor that will not cooperate in getting them what they need to provide a customer what they paid for (insurance that covers a flat).
