We rented a car for one day picking up at Manchester airport and dropping off at a different location. The quote given as an inclusive quote was around £26. However, when coming to enter payment details a one way charge of £36 was added plus VAT. There is no reason that this charge could not have been included in the original quote and the only reason that it is done this way is to cynically and deliberately catch people out. The staff at the pick up and drop off location didn't mention this extra charge, probably having learned from experience. That and they were too busy trying to upsell an overpriced insurance product (£17) compared to one available on the internet for £2. The car was fine but the whole booking experience has put us off using this company ever again.

We're sorry to hear that the 'one way fee' was not made clear to you throughout the booking process. When a 'one way' rental is booked via the website it does display the following message on the screen where all rates are displayed:
--Important One Way Information Certain restrictions may apply when picking up and dropping off at different locations, including additional fees. If the one way is permitted, we will contact you to advise of any restrictions and/or applicable fees. A voucher will also be sent for your review. You may cancel your reservation and receive a full refund if done so with 48h advanced notice.--

Your feedback will be passed to the management team so that they can look to improve on how the local charge for returning a vehicle to another location is displayed.
