Owner of 2007 CygnusX 125 bike, now 2021 @ 27.000 Km. Full Option Windscreen high, topbox Givi Large, Apron and Heater for handlebar. Wintertires fitted, used all year incl wet / cold weather
Having owned the Cygnus NXC ( old type carburator ) before I can say I have years experience in driving and maintaining both types.
Cygnus X has a Minarelli Aircooled Fuelinjected engine, which is very dependable and with 4 valves powerfull enough to drive a single person up to 100-105 Km/H or 80-85 with two and a lot of wind....
Great points are:
-Very good,sturdy (Yamaha) build quality
-Very, very dependable (when well maintained)
-Fuelinjection type perfect start/running
-Good brakes and handling, reasonable lighting front.
-Good weather protection especially with apron, muffs and handlebar heater ;}.
-Good storage under seat and two open storage in front
-Good available / cheap spares and maintenance
-Highway capable without passenger / overtaking
-Long distances no problem without passenger @100 Km/h
-Maintenance is easy and cheap
-Good Milage ( 3l/100km or 35/L approx
-Good meters basic info and lighting instrument
-Kickstarter usefull whem battery down
Less great thing:
-Frequent oil change 3000Km (easy, any recommended oil)
-Valve clearance out valves (2) not easy to reach, every 6000 Km check.
-Main stand prone to seize without regular attention
-No standard usb on 2007 model
-Rear tire replacement takes time but easy.
-Relative small bike for 1.85 person
-Needs large topbox to fit XL system helmet
-Fueltank effective radius with some spare around 200-250 is average for type
-Front wintertires (size) difficult to purchase, alternative rear size fits but alters driving behaviour, works but use at your own risk!
-Cramped with passenger, but possible for short trips, not advisable freeways.
solution
For daily trips up to 20-30Km, in all weather no fuss hop on perfect commuter, easy economical.Occassional freeway acceptable, is still only a 125!
