My travel insurance was auto renewed in March on my credit card. I promptly rang up and said cancel it and put my money back on my card. They said it will be refunded in several working days. I assumed it was done and didn't check. Anyway I just noticed a refund on my account which took 3 months!!!! SWIFTCOVER .... what was you doing with my money for 3 months? FFS that is theft. They take money from your card without permission. Give you 14 days to get it cancelled. Then give it you back 3 months later. Any one else experience this abuse of trust by swiftcover? They made no excuses and said they didn't know why it happened and apologised. Well let me tell you swiftcover....computers are black and white. There are no grey areas. So who made the decision to hold customers money? Anyone know which governing body I should escalate this to?

Swiftcover - aptly named...quick to take you premium (and auto-renew it), but harder to pin down than a greasy pig afterwards. Stranded in an airport after my flight was cancelled, I called the travel helpdesk in a panic to find out about cover for rebooking. The first guy I spoke to explained that the claims department had some discretion and could help immediately. He promptly transferred me to a recorded message by the claims department, which is, er, closed at the weekend. Great. Next, the 'emergency line' - in fact an 'emergency medical line' - whose staff had no knowledge about Swiftcover at all. Next up, the travel helpdesk again, only to be passed to another 'emergency' line which turned out to be the same medical one. Another dead end, and call back promised but never received. Finally, the helpdesk revealed they couldn't do anything for delays of less than 24 hours. 45 minutes, 7 phonecalls to 087* numbers, three different versions of whether Swiftcover's travel helpdesk was even open on Saturdays, and at least three call handlers who worked for AXA and had no idea about Swiftcover at all. A complete shambles.

Even when give a complete set of supporting documents, Swiftcover/AXA Insurance will simply ignore them and try to get away with paying the minimum. I have only said I was "successful" because I extracted partial payment of my legitimate claim. I have now made four chasing phone calls - none of which should have been necessary - to get them to do their job properly and am still waiting for a second cheque. I have paid travel insurance for 40 years and this is the FIRST CLAIM I have ever made - so i have subsidised this industry up to the hilt. Swiftcover will - if you actually get through to someone who admits to working for travel insurance claims - tell you all sorts of things to reassure you, but then do nothing about it. As with many large companies, their overpaid "managers" refuse to demean themselves by getting off their backsides to talk to a mere client, and hide behind the footsoldiers. In an industry which for decades has been a byword for incompetence, Swiftcover maintains the tradition.

I had Swiftcover insurance that expired last week. To my surprise, Swiftcover have sent me an email saying 'We've renewed your annual insurance!'. They didn't ask me if I wanted to renew the cover, and sent no advance warning (as they , so this was quite surprising. I wrote an email back asking them to cancel it, to which they haven't replied. I've now been on hold to their 0871 number for 10 minutes trying to cancel it - they claim they sent me a reminder, I can see from my email inbox/spam filter they didn't. VERY DUBIOUS!

Absolute useless... Waste of time and money!! DO NOT USE!
We travelled as a family, group of 7 in April and were stranded in America for an extra 10 days due to the Volcanic ash cloud and we were told we could claim for this
On arrival back to the UK we claimed and were told £25 per day per person could be claimed, 7days later we chased and they declined this saying they need boarding passes. We sent these and chased 5 days later and they said they needed a letter from the airline... sent this and chased 7days later to find they need another letter, sent this and are still chasing to this day - 4 months on!!
They aren't willing to compensate anyone terrible company!

Although easy to set up (as stated in previous reviews), when it comes to making a claim this company is appalling. We were unable to travel in April due to Volcanic Ash and 10 weeks after making a claim for loss of hotel costs etc, we were refused under a late departure clause. I would never use them again and would not recommend them.

Annual holiday to Goa, week into holiday had deep vein thombosis, 5 days in the hospital and a operation to save my leg, Swiftcover, reimbursed me within a month of my return to the uk as I paid via direct debit to the hospital, to save time and also my leg! No quibble I felt the service was very good. I just sent all the receipts by recorded delivery. What more could you ask for? Jasckie.

Re: Swiftcover travel Insurance
BUYER BEWARE
This company is absoultely useless. I took out Travel Insurance for a trip to the USA in June with Swiftcover through 'Moneysupermarket.com' and had the misfortune to have had an accident.
Swiftcover would not deal with the Hospital on the phone and I had to settle with my credit card before I was allowed to leave the Hospital. HIGHLY INCONVENIENT.
Since my return, further bills have been sent to me for Ambulance services etc, and despite many calls, letters and E-Mails to Swiftcover to try to get the Bills paid, they still have not settled.
I am now being taken to court by the Ambulance people / Hospital for the outstanding debts.
Swiftcover have consistantly promised me the urgent payment of the debts every time I call them, but they have still not paid as of December.
They do not make return calls to me (as they promise), and fail to provide me with any written information regarding this matter.
In short, anybody considering using this company should be warned. They may be cheap, but when it comes to Customer Service and honouring their commitments, they are absolutely atrocious.

i wouldn't insure an animal with this company. they are liars using clever celebrity endorsements to hoodwink the needy out of their last few pennies. of all the companies i have been ripped off by this one has to be the most diabolical. i went abroad and Swift cover clearly stated if i lost my cash i was covered and they refused to pay.
total morons, they couldn't even be bothered to apologize or retun all the travel documents i wasted time and money sending to them.

some money blew out of my pocket while abroad and i promptly informed the police. i was told by swiftcover i was entitled to compensation as i purchased the policy before a wording change. swiftcover treated me with contempt and never even said sorry for turning down my claim. they are a waste of time and money

Swiftcover travel insurance is APPALLING. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!
My partner and I were abroad in France when we learned that one of his colleagues had tragically died (of breast cancer at a young age) and we needed to come home for the funeral. It cost us more than £600 to cancel our existing arrangements and rebook everything. Swiftcover refused to cover us. Why?
First of all, they claimed that we weren't covered for employees, only death of close family. Luckily, I had the contract to hand, and was able to discover and point out that this was a barefaced lie - the contract says you are covered for "close business associates".
Next, they tried to argue that the colleague wasn't a "close business associate". After I said that the company only had four employees and they all worked together closely, they reluctantly accepted it. But then they argued that...
The contract says you must inform them of any pre-existing medical conditions that might result in you having to come home. Since we hadn't told them she had breast cancer, it was apparently not covered! Well, firstly:
- I said that we'd taken the travel insurance out six months ago, and didn't know the condition was terminal at that point - they said we should have informed them when the condition became terminal. Well, we only found out she was terminally ill a week ago, and at that point we were very upset. The last thing on our minds was ringing the insurers to tell them!
- Also, I said that they hadn't asked me upfront at the time of buying the insurance whether anyone we knew was ill. They said it was in the small print in the contract, so it was our fault for not reading it.
Summary: Swiftcover were appalling and insensitive. From the first minute of the phone call I had the sense that they were going to find any excuse they could not to pay out (including simply lying about the policy).
It's hard to describe how horrible it was having to argue over the phone just after we'd found out that someone we knew had died.
And they left us totally in the lurch, hundreds of pounds out of pocket.
AVOID!!!

The most awful of experience of an insurance company ever. We lodged a genuine claim with all documentary evidence. Swiftcover travel insurance is underwritten by another company who couldn't care less. Have now escalated to the financial services ombudsman for review. Swiftcover was cheap, but then they don't cover you. Do yourself a favour and look elsewhere.

Emailed Swiftcover several times to try and renew my annual travel insurance policy early as I needed the documents for a trip. Query was answered by someone different every time and every response was exactly the same. No one actually bothered to renew the policy, I just kept having conditions explained to me and asked to confirm I wanted to renew early. Felt I was just going round in circles. So glad I never had to make a claim with them! Have decided to go elsewhere.

Easy to buy. Cheap. Very cheap. Easy to use website. Insurance certificate immediately available (as a PDF). Answered a couple of queries promptly by email. No experience of their claims handling efficiency.

I have not come across such poor company in years. This also includes swiftcover' "senior" (???) management who was unable to understand and handle very simple issue. I'm glad I cancelled my insurance and moved elsewhere.

Our data on the site was all incorrect, very alarming. WE got the blame! It was corrected by someone (after a massive attempt to speak to a person) and it was ans still is wrong on the site. Our payment was never taken for our cover when it should have been, weeks later it transpired the card information was wrong too, and we hadn't paid, so we did, then they cancelled the insurance and only re-paid us the difference! I would insist that, in the event of an accident they would not have covered us while we had not paid, but they wouldnt refund us that part! Will NEVER use again or recommend

I looked around and cover looks much the same whoever you buy it from but Swift were £40 cheaper than my previous insurer (Post Office) and their website is really easy to use. I called their help line with a question andgot straight through and was pleased to hear that it's in the UK. I would definitely recommend.

Bought the insurance on the web site. It was easy user friendly and easy to purchase. Any queries I had were answered directly on the website. None, although I did not have to claim. This is the third policy I have purchase over the last two years and I have never had a problem.

You get what you pay for. I just hope I don't have put a claim in this next year - their administration systems and procedures are appalling. I was with Privilege Insurance and only switched because of the cheaper quote. Mistake. Hopefully swiftcover will tarnish AXA's generally good reputation to such an extent, the parent company will step in an sort out this online mess.

Where do I start. I got Swiftcover cover as it covered missed departures, but when I tried to claim after being held up in motorway traffic for over three hours I was told that I could not claim, as I was not in an accident myself! I had to then pay over £300 for another flight.
They have unfortunately been consistently unhelpful, bordering on rude, and I would not recommend them. It is sad as they are very reasonable priced, but in my case there is a reason for it.

Having just bought a policy from them myself I thought I'd better check the small print and they do make it clear that they won't pay out in circumstances such as yours.
<br/>
<br/> I took a look at one or two other big insurers to compare and none of them do either so it looks like you'd have been out of pocket no matter who you'd insured with.
