“Dreadful company”

★☆☆☆☆

written by rodpascoe on 29/10/2011

Just moved my entire reseller account to www.unlimitedwebhosting.co.uk what a breath of fresh air. My UH-Hosting / M24/7 / Primehosting (they keep reinventing themselves - probably to try and hide from the negative reviews) account has been offline for 9 hours. It has only been up 27 hours since the last outage which was for 14 hours. Every time I ring support the poor bod on the phone who sounds miserable as hell says "I don't know what's wrong, they've just asked me to answer the phone" - fantastic! Their website says 99.99% network availability. RUBBISH. Was with UH-Hosting for 6 years. Glad to see the back of them. STAY AWAY FROM THIS TERRIBLE COMPANY!!!

“Disgraceful service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SteTommo on 01/07/2011

I had been with UH hosting for several years, and as others have said they are great as long as nothing goes wrong. However things did go wrong. CONSTANTLY. They, for no reason, just reverted my entire account back several years from an old backup. This was due to a failure of their platform. Since then it was a constant stream of problems due to their tech guys not having a clue what they were doing and not communicating. This was made even worse by the fact they clearly couldn't care less about my situation. Then after MONTHS of hassle I finally transferred my 10 or so sites away. After I finally managed to cancel my account. They to £60 out of my ban account. They refuse to explain why they have done this. After 2 weeks of constant emails I finally got to speak to an MD. He sent me one email with a link to their almost none-existent T&Cs and now is completely ignoring my emails.

“Where do I start? ”

written by davidraw on 02/05/2011

Where do I start?

I hosted several sites with them... They were ok as long as nothing went wrong.

Unfortunately in 2010 something awful did go wrong - they had a disk failure. That shouldn't have really been a problem, right? Hosting companies have backups of all their data, don't they? Well, not UH - their backups had been failing for MONTHS and no-one had done anything about it.

So, I lost live website data on several websites and UH just washed their hands of it.

Terrible CS, cost me a fortune and they would not take responsibility at all.

I have been with UH for 5 years + and been quite happy however I have recently seen the sites slow and often be offline, so I have looked for another supplier and found one but now I can't cancel with UH because I haven't given them enough notice.

I'd avoid UH like the plague... Un friendly and un helpful and trying to rob me of almost £100 for a service I no longer want.

I'd have like to have been told about their cancellation policy before I got in with them and given a reminder that the account will renew before it's too late to cancel.

“Having been with UH Hosting a number of years I was...”

written by on 05/02/2011

Having been with UH Hosting a number of years I was pretty happy with them and even went as far as recommending them to others.

However my opinion of them has somewhat changed over the past 6 months due to an increasing lenght of time to reply to support tickets and more frequent downtime as of late.

Now the reasons for the downtime may have been out of their control but the level of service/support during these periods has been appalling. Luckily I was running an uptime monitoring service on my websites and received emails to notify me of problems. UH Hosting did not in any way communicate with its customers on the problems and solutions in a timely manner which is the main reason I have since left the hosting provider and taken my business elsewhere.

I would personally look at alternative hosting providers before considering UH Hosting based on my past experience and this is coming from a customer who was previously with them for a number of years.

Since joining forces with M247 Ltd the service seems to have gone downhill. Have a look around thier support forum and you will see I am not the only one to have suffered: http://forums.uh-hosting.co.uk/index.php.

I was with them for several years and it was of a case of not good but not bad either. The cancellation went smoothly and that was that, at least that's what I thought.

Eight months later they started trying to bill me again. Luckily the credit card details they have on file had expired so it hasn't succeeded. But I'm not impressed at all. This really shouldn't happen.

Not perfect but I don't think any hosting is. I do find them good value but support is slow but as problems are few and far between it's not so bad.

Too much offline time with UH Hosting, server issues, slow to no support, poor response to tickets. The entire site is offline again, along with my reseller hosted domains, which means a loss of productivity.

“Charged credit card and billed for over 14 months...”

☆☆☆☆☆

written by realfacts on 12/03/2007

Charged credit card and billed for over 14 months AFTER account closed (closed as moved to different service plan). After endless emails, phone calls resolving it, it to happened AGAIN 6 months later (and a third time a month ago). I had to threaten legal action to get back money from them after spending many hours emailing and telephoning, I eventually got this back after many months YET they still continue to bill me as we speak despite emails confirming account closure. Help tickets are generally totally ignored as are emails direct to the boss (it's a single man operation). You have to actually telephone direct a few times to get anything done. The servers may look good value but the price almost doubled recently with no warning or notice, you find out when you get billed!

So that covers the company attitude what about their servers? There have been many days when the web servers were unavailable for days at a time, mail servers have been down also for days at a time so I've had to revert to using a backup hotmail account to send business related mail. Emails have consequently been lost. The MySQL servers have gone down or become corrupted many times so your forums go offline. I have another set of emails and forum posts requesting they sort things out with the servers. When I first set up one of the accounts the canel simply didn't work properly, my help requests were ignored, eventually after a month I was able to use it. I can sys admin free myself so am no clueless newbie. The general attitude is to deny anything is wrong until you pester them repeatedly, then they eventually fix it and offer a lame excuse and false apology (false as it happens again and again)

I am dumbstruck that in 2007 a company can conduct it's business in this manner. No serious hosting requirement should even consider using uh-hosting. ANY vaguely negative posts on their own help forums, complaining or warning others are promptly removed, giving the false illusion of user contentment. See how few forum posts there actually are which for a supposedly busy, popular, hosting company paints its own picture? That is why I have had to come here to an independant review site to warn others. I personally doubt the integrity of any positive reviews, given how they manipulate posts on their own forums. I have kept all my forum posts and have records of many emails & phone calls if anyone wishes to challenge this. I wouldn't recommend uh-hosting to my worst enemy. They have cost me much time & money. I was a fool to stay for 2.5 years but it's very time consuming migrating multiple domains around. I am so happy I have finally left for good.

If you only need basic hosting you may as well use a free web space provider, if you need a more commercially orientated service I'd sooner rely on a ZX81 with ram-pack wobble than these guys.

UH Hosting offer unbelievable prices and extremely fast responses. I'm really pleased and impressed. I highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for reliable and great saving web hosting.

I've seen other bad reviews about them, but it is simply not true. So, as a happy customer, I'm happy to defend them.

I sent them 4 enquires; all replied to within 3 hours, with satisfactory answers. They do know what they are doing!

They are particularly suitable for manging multiple domains - using their "reseller package". Easy to upgrade when your requirements climb. Support tickets are always answered within 24 hours for me.

I would recommend UH Hosting.

If you don't mind waiting a week or two for your account to be set up, once you have ordered. If you also don't mind your support tickets answered in about 3 - 7 days, then UH Hosting are probably great for you.

However, with the lack of "help" I have had from UH Hosting, I could not recommend them to a friend at all. Extra staff and support improvements have been promised for months and months, but it never has arrived yet. Lately, UH Hosting has been plagued with problem after problem.

I found RK Hosting www.rk-hosting.com and they are brilliant!

Re "Only 1 person dealing with support" . I am pretty sure they are a one man operation period. So there is one person dealing with everything. Support req's, tech req's, billing req's, phone calls all answered by the same one guy!

“They were recommended to me two years ago by another...”

written by deejolly on 07/10/2006

They were recommended to me two years ago by another webmaster; someone who is usually spot on with their judgement. On this occasion, they got it badly wrong.

The experience of hosting with UH has been nothing short of a fiasco. It kicked off with problems setting up my account. Five days and three e-mails were required to get this done.

Everything went OK for a couple of months, then there were big problems in September/October 2005. Sites were offline for around 10 days, there was no contact from technical support, but finally the problem was fixed, and fingers crossed, I decided to give it one last try.

Since then, there has been at least one problem per month, all of which have resulted in profitable sites being offline for an unacceptable length of time. Most of the problems were due to basic errors in server configuration. For UH Hosting read amateur hour.

I've moved all my sites from UH Hosting to reliable hosting companies, where you pay a little more but get a lot extra in terms of reliability and support. If you are considering using UH Hosting to host your site, you need your bumps felt; and after they've been felt, go elsewhere.

Realfacts's Response to deejolly's Review

The only reason anyone would stay with them is they are simply too lazy to go through all the hassle of migrating domains, sql db's etc to a new hoster. That kept me there for over 2 years, despite my realisation after less than a year that they were useless. In the end my laziness cost me much time & money and it took no more than a day to shift things away from Useless Hosting. You are totally correct you do get what you pay for and in this case not very much.

“I first used UH in 2003, when I got a cheap PHP/MySQL...”

★★☆☆☆

written by mulhu on 21/07/2006

I first used UH in 2003, when I got a cheap PHP/MySQL shell account. At £1.50 per month, it was excellent value. Not perfect; I called support 3 or 4 times over a couple of years; once because I forgot to update payment details, the other times... the problem was resolved, but with no indication of the cause. But for £1.50, who can complain?

Towards the end of 2005, my database access suddenly stopped working; I called support to see if they'd changed anything round.

They didn't address my problem at all. I was told that the shell account was no longer being sold to new customers, and that they wished to move people to newer accounts. Okay, I'd like to know if that means you're discontinuing my account, and if the problem I'm having is related to this?

They wouldn't give a straight answer on either point. Had they simply come out and said that the remaining shell accounts were being discontinued, I'd have understood (£1.50/m *is* cheap, and to maintain a server and support for the few legacy accounts at that price... I wouldn't want to either). Would I have the problem if I upgraded? Who knows...

I upgraded anyway. It was something like £4.50 a month, and came with a free domain. Accounts were meant to be set up within 4 hours, but I ordered mine late on Friday afternoon so didn't expect it to be done until the next week. Still, time went by... I read the forums, read about many others waiting for the same thing, and started to regret staying with UH.

I sent a chase-up email on Wednesday... after a short while I received a reply apologising for the delay and saying that my chosen domain had been taken.... on the *exact same day* that they'd tried registering it(!) Coincidence? They insisted it was. Unlikely... the domain had been unregistered for at least five years. I was repeatedly given the pat, unconvincing "coincidence" answers (and I was getting pretty annoyed by this stage) and told to take up the issue with the company that had grabbed the domain.

At least I was offered a refund.

Wanting to find out what had happened, I looked into the issue myself (without naming names); I later discovered that it was almost certainly a "pick-up-searched-domain-names" scam, and got the domain myself when the squatter realised they weren't going to make any money and dropped it.

Was this UH's fault? Had they been more open, less opaque and less willing to fob me off, I might have said no. As it stands, they're the ones in the business, they're the ones who ought to know what they're doing, and they were the ones responsible for registering the name. As they didn't feel obliged to provide any details to me, I'd say fine. UH was the company I dealt with, UH messed up, it *was* UH's fault.

Are UH the worst company out there? Very unlikely. But I certainly wouldn't want to use them again, and I wouldn't want to host a commercial website with them.
