Never made a claim with them so can't comment on their customer service or the claims process. However my insurance has risen steeply with each quote over seven years and fed up with paying through the nose, enlisted my daughter to research my options online. I was shocked but delighted at how competitive the quotes were in comparison and have now reduced my bill by £150 with a well established insurer and got extra cover and a 24 hour emergency line. Am very happy I looked around especially having read the reviews about their claims process on this site. It just goes to show, loyalty does not pay these days and as saga is for the over fifties who may be less likely to shop around, it seems wrong they are fleecing older customers on a limited income who believe in and trust their brand name.

All insurance companies are a rip off. I only insure my cars at the cheapest rate every year. Because I have too by law. I drive with great care. Insurance cover is just an excuse, not to look after your things properly. Insurance companies really are parasites that you don't really need they just perpetuate fear and take your hard earned money. And once you relax they steal more and more. Just look after your kit and boost your security and you’ll be OK. Question. Who owns the insurance companies anyway?

I agree wholeheartedly: third-party insurance is terrible. There is no requirement for the insurers to provide a reasonable deal; so they work together to rip us all off, to pay out on bogus claims.
My wife's insurance company SAGA wasted a stack of money paying for the unnecessary collection of her freshly-MoT-tested car by transporter: refusing our offer to drive it to them at an appointed time.
I had needed to get it tested before they were ready to inspect the damage: caused by someone rushing out of a parked position and scraping along its side.
They took it away and kept it at an approved garage for three weeks, for someone to inspect it: a ten minute job of evaluating the repair cost versus the vehicle value!
They insisted we had an almost-new Vauxhall Insignia hire car for that time: a death trap with uncomfortably hard suspension: it is impossible to see behind when pulling out, without opening driver's door!
My wife and I were both very glad to get our Escort-sized Hyundai estate back:
it may not be so protective for us, but it is not so deadly for other road users!
There was only cosmetic damage on wife's old car; but SAGA 'wrote it off' and put a VIC marker on the DVLA database as a Category C repairable vehicle. We got it back from the garage with added-extra minor damage; but we are still using it daily, without repairing any of the cosmetic damage.
It still has the VIC marker which, as long as we keep the car, only stops the DVLA tax reminders! So, we won't pay the £80 fee to check the identity of the vehicle: as this has never been in question: it was MoT tested (including an identity check) between the dates of damage and the VIC marker being applied!
What an inconvenient waste of time and money!
And guess who pays for that: the premium-payers!
