“More good than bad!”

Written on: 26/10/2014 by Scootertits (1 review written)

I've had the 04 model of the sygnus now for about 4 months and it's a godsend! Very reliable and once I replaced the belt and rollers it is amazing on petrol. Shame about the size of fuel tank. The suspension is to be truthful not very good as one little bump and you can feel it all. And it's not got the biggest leg room but up hill is amazing and gets up to top speed of about 65 mph without a problem. Look after it and it will look after you… Read Full Review

“Beauty and the Beast!”

Written on: 30/05/2014 by Dawson286 (1 review written)

I just purchased a brand new Cygnus-X yesterday. I live in Taipei, which makes having a scooter to get around essential (to hard to find parking for a car, and much faster to get around). I have to say that I am very impressed with the product so far (I have only put 27km on it since yesterday). I am a big beast, 105kg and 180cm tall, so the larger body and tires on the Cygnus really appealed to me. I only have one issue, as this is a scooter, and Taiwan, they don't let you test drive… Read Full Review

“Little dependable friend”

Written on: 06/05/2013 by carloscuny (4 reviews written)

Good bike, overall good quality. My 2005 model is an old type carb w/o digital meters etc. Functional the same as more modern type. The bike feels small for a 1.85 m large man. The fueltank is half a am used to with my YBR 125. That's bad. Room is enough under the buddy but holds no systemhelmet. A big top holds everything, an rearcarier and all other accesoires are easy to find. Handling does not feel good. It feels every groove. Cornering to is so-so. Maybe a good fronttire and service will… Read Full Review

Just have the latest type called CygnusX with fuel injection and digital meters with tripmeter, clock and oilchange indicator.
The old, 2013 review still holds.
It still does around 100-105 KPH and 3L/100, not exceptional just good for a 4 valve aircooled engine.
Headlight is very good extremely well with special motorcycle lamp from Osram or Philips
It is my second Cygnus since 2013 and used many other types like Honda Visions 110 , Kymco 125 and 200, UH 200 Suzuki Burgman etc.
The Yam is a topquality product for 24/7 EVERY DAY all seasons basic transport. It holds itself on the highway , I rode long trips without any problem.
It is my primary form of peronal transport in city and rural area with weekend trips over the highway 100-400Km.
Range is at 250Km, acceptable, always have small can with 1litre for emergency1

“Feels restricted”

Written on: 18/05/2012 by Drewzie (1 review written)

My Cygnus 125 (2010)is very good. No major problems as yet. Although recently it feels restricted when it is at 30 - 40 mph... No matter how far back my throttle is it remains at the 30 - 40 mph and gradually increases! It just doesnt want to go fast. It hasn't happened before. Any idea why now?… Read Full Review

“Amazing Bike.”

Written on: 05/12/2011

This bike is fantastic. For a 125 it accelerates fast, good top end speed of between 60 and 70 depending on your weight, very reliable and made out of good stuff. I previously owned a chinese 50cc that gave me nothing but hassle, I've only owned this bike a couple of weeks but it's been perfect. It's done roughly 16,000 miles (26,000 kms) and still fires first time. No complaints apart from the vibrations at low speeds. Good throttle response, good handling, great on fuel efficiency and the… Read Full Review

Written on: 06/05/2011

Having owned the 2010 Cygnus X for a few months now (second owner) I can say its a great little bike and glad I got rid of the Peugoet I had. The bike I purchased without viewing it as from Yamaha direct and I was suppised how small it was compared to some of the scooters around (eg x-max) and have always found it a bit short and small for me. I'm 5' 10" and want to modify the seat to allow me to slide back a bit to the passenger area. Apart from that, it always starts first time, its so… Read Full Review

Written on: 14/04/2011 by dan2dons (1 review written)

Had mine for 7 months and its reliability has been great. Pleased with the economy and very nifty to move around chaotic London traffic. I would recommend this bike to anyone...
...however 2 gripes:
1. I am 5'10'' ans the riding position is just a little cramped. Fortunately I don't do miles on the bike, but I suspect it isnt great for longer journeys
2. As reported by someone else, the bike shakes at low revs when warm, which is a real pain when filtering through traffic. Have no idea why… Read Full Review

Written on: 27/03/2011

I've had mine for about 3-4 years now. I use it every weekday (about 10-15 km per day, all year around). Untill now it has only failed me once (I probably choked it) I also crashed it once at about 40 km/h: bit of bodywork broken, but the next day, it started as if nothing has happened! The kick-start has been helpful a few times, especially when I didn't use my cygnus for a couple of days.
The only "negative" thing I can think of is that when you leave the engine running, it will die after… Read Full Review

Hi, I love my Cygnus, it's economicaland up to now pretty reliable but I've been having starting problems, I think diue to the Battery. It turns over like it's flat then quickens then eventually starts! Until this morning when it was just dead ! Anyone else had this problem ? I've also never been able to start the Scooter with the kick start!! I've had bikes for years but the kick starter doesn't even make it fire. Am I doing something wrong ?

make sure the earth from batery to frame / frame to engine is good. this can make it hard for electric to flow even if possitive lead to starter is good. ( it has to get back to battery easily also! )

Written on: 15/01/2011

I have been riding my Cygnus for 18 months. Bought it new. Trouble free apart from killing the battery by not riding it for 6 weeks in the cold season. Now have a trickle charger for the new battery. Best buy was a full size screen. I live in a very hilly area but it does a decent 35 up the longest and steepest with a load. 50-55mph on the flat, but I seldom go that fast. Rear drum brake is a bit feeble.

Written on: 27/08/2010 by Amyb1980 (1 review written)

I have had a scooters for four years. I have had mine for two years. You won't get 70mph on a road straight.
The speed monitors on bike and car are 5mph out. The maxim you will get is 65mph. The storages is not very good on it. I had a Jog RR and I use to get a lot more in the jog because it was a lot more deeper underneath. But you can make it deeper if you had some of the padding taking out of seat.
They are fab little bikes and unfortunate mine got written off in RTA. Which wasn't my fault… Read Full Review

Written on: 22/06/2010

I bought this scooter after reading other peoples reports on this site, I am soo pleased with this. There are a couple of things I don't like (it jerks in low speed, when in stop and go traffic jams, it vibrates a bit at 45/50). I have just ridden it to Manchester and back 145 miles each way, I didn't have a seconds worry from the little beastie on the journey. It used about 2 1/2 tanks of fuel, which figures out at £15, so much cheaper than the train. I live in a hilly area and it does not… Read Full Review

Written on: 27/03/2009 by Sharla82 (9 reviews written)

I've had my Yamaha Cygnus X for 3 years. I replaced my Jetforce after 18 months due to the dreadfull relability problems. I purchased the Cygnus due to its light weight, more basic analogue dash, and box carriage ability. The fuel economy is brilliant. Its used for commuting on 30/40mph speed limit road, so its rarely pushed fast. I get 225 miles on a 7 litre tank, compared to 130 miles on a 8 litre tank on my Jet force. So smaller tank but nearly double the miles !! . Now its getting a few… Read Full Review

Written on: 18/02/2009

i bought my cygnus 3 yrs ago after reading many reviews, however if i'd test ridden it first i'd probably not have bought it, i really found the suspension hard & the brakes not so good. but maybe thats because i've had big bikes all my life & i really bought this as a weekend runabout & to keep er indoors happy. anyway 3yrs down the road it's never missed a beat or failed to start, & as another review said it goes as well 2 up, the motor & transmission really work well. All in all it's a good… Read Full Review

Hi there can you help? I'm a scooter novice.

I'm considering this model but i was intrigued and concerned by your statement re hard suspension and brakes. this obviously poses a safety issue !?

any other brand or model that you can recommend?

initially i was going for a aprila sprot city 125cc but the feedback was that it can be a hassle to get the parts as it takes as it takes a very long time!

your advise will be instrumental.
thanks.

Paulo

I have had my 2008 Yamaha Cygnus since june 2008 and have done just over 3200 miles, its been serviced once at 600 miles to get the oil changed and havent had it serviced since, has started first time, every time... its a 125cc moped so will do 65mph, also it has an electric start and a kick start in case the battery runs out... The lights are automatic and there is a handy digital dial to show how much petrol you have, i have ridden about 120 miles from the tank being full and still had some… Read Full Review

Yamaha Cygnus X. Brilliant little bike. Didn't really know what scooter to get second had, but wanted 4 stroke and the ability to put a full face beneath the seat.
