“How does this business survive?”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 10/04/2018

Today, after struggling to even find somewhere to park so I could hopefully purchase a Corsa, I was completely ignored whilst outside looking at cars and even when I went inside the showroom. Despite there being two members of staff sitting at the Service desks, they absolutely refused to make eye contact with me or ask if I needed any help. How on earth does Evans Halshaw sell cars???? Here I was, a cash buyer, eager to find out more about the Corsa and you failed spectacularly! Thought it might be because I was a lone female of a certain age, but really I have come to the conclusion that it was pure ignorance. Manager of Evans Halshaw - you wont be in a job for very long if you don't sort out your staff!

“Terrible customer service”

written by ZionFitch on 07/01/2017

Visited with full intention to purchase a new Corsa. After 15 mins eventually driving around a packed car park & forecourt we found a free parking space. Had a walk around forecourt no sales person came near us. Went inside and were completely ignored for over 10mins. Had another walk around and went back inside. Once again completely ignored. Decided to leave and were blocked in by a staff member. There is completely inadequate parking, customers are forced to double park wherever possible, as are delivery drivers etc. Do not waste your time on this place.

I can only reiterate these comments after my visit on the 11th January. No parking, indifferent staff decided to take my business elsewhere. I would say to any prospective visitor don't waste your time!!

“Very poor - all about selling not service”

written by Bradyp66 on 17/11/2016

Bought a car here recently, very poor customer service, no attention to detail. Was not informed of road tax cost, also purchased service plan, was told could cancel at any time, upon cancelling was told I had to pay a £30 charge. Even when I did get the car serviced, customer service was very poor, no explanation of work done, no follow up, nothing. AVOID

I contacted head office to express an interest in a Vauxhall Corsa. The very next day the price of the vehicle was subsequently increased!!! After a period of about ten days, the price reverted back again, so I booked a test drive. for a few days in advance, for a specific time. I phoned a couple of days before, to check the car was still available as I explained I would be making a very long trip to view the car, a round trip of some 160 plus miles. I drove over 50 miles in very heavy traffic on the M25, and phoned to say I would be about half an hour late, only to then be told the had previously been sold! I contacted the company and got no reply what so ever. I hen phoned the manager who couldn't give a damn that a day off of work had been lost plus all my expenses and trouble!! He even tied to say the car ha been reduced in price rathe than as I was increased!!!

“Awful service very unprofessional ”

High pressure salesman managed to flog me a car but it had a scratch which I asked to be rectified. He said they'd see what they could do but when I went to pick it up it was still there, got into an argument about what he'd actually agreed to do! Tried to get me to pay in full I said no obviously only once car was in a saleable condition which it should be before it goes on the forecourt tbh. I started to have doubts so asked for a warranty but they wouldn't give me anything even wanted £20 for some fuel to get the tax on it! I decided that the service wasn't satisfactory & rang to cancel the manager came on the phone started moaning about not making a profit out of me, unbelievable!! Go elsewhere plenty of better dealers around I ended up getting one from Bedmond Motors no pressure let me test drive on my own & better cars + warranty!

“Time and money wasters”

My car developed strange fault, sometimes cutting off turbo when accelerating. When I turn the engine off and on again, all is fine. Rang Vauxhall to get a quote on ECU software update but they won't give it to me, they say they need to inspect and diagnose the car. So they booked me for inspection. When I dropped off the car, straight away I was informed that diagnostics will cost £72, I agreed because I wanted to know what is going on with the car. 6 hrs later I get a call saying my turbo is gone and it would cost over £900 for new one. I am not a car mechanic but if turbo is gone, it is gone and you have no power at all. Explaining that turbo is fine, it just gets cut off by sensor or some kinda electronic fault from time to time, they had no other answer for me because they clearly had no idea, they just made it up to get money off me. When I collected the car, there was nothing to pay apparently so they haven't even done computer diagnostics to see engines faults recorded. Total waste of time, avoid.

“Very unhappy”

I bought a brand new car from them which I was due to pick up two weeks later with new plates. During this time I was asked on a number of separate occasions to bring in different documents, rather than all in one trip which was a pain. On arrival to collect the car I was given some rubbish tale by the sales manager about not having the right paperwork and therefore the car couldn't be collected but would be ready the following day. I went outside to look at the car and it completely filthy, covered in bird mess and also had a small dent in the side of the car. After arguing with the manager he admitted they forgot to get it ready and this was why i din't have the car. It was eventually sent away for repair. After a week on un-answered phone calls, messages not being returned and a number of visits in person I was told my car was ready for collection. I picked it up, drove it home and noticed another dent in the car! I sent it straight back for repair and was promised this would only take two days. Three days later and again, I'm still waiting. I have now been waiting for over 2 weeks to get the car and despite endless phone calls, speaking to various people who work there the incident hasn't been resolved. While the staff weren't ever rude, they appear to have no clue about how to deal with customers or how to sell a car! They seem to think that customers do not see through their rubbish and we can be treated as idiots. There is a lack of professionalism and customer service throughout the organisation and they don't seem at all bothered about what I have been through as a customer. I am annoyed at the rubbish I was expected to believe and the lack of professionalism and organisation from start to finish. It amazes me how an organisation that sell cars and deal with customers every day can be so bad at selling car and dealing with customers! This is the first time I have bought a car from a dealership and the experience has been awful. I would strongly advise people to avoid Evans Halshaw Hemel Hempstead.

“I bought a zafira exclusive 2 years ago and have had...”

I bought a zafira exclusive 2 years ago and have had problems with it since the day we drove off their forcourhet. Basically I was dead excited to be getting a lovely big car and put my astra in as part exchange. When we got the car home we did a a once over and noticed that one of wheel trims was scratched up there was a few big long thin scratches along the side of the door. One of the back lights wernt working and their was a cd jammed in the cd player. I took the car back to evans halshaw to get these things looked into. They had to replace the cd player nd again a cd got stuck in it so had to be replaced again. The scratch did get filled in. anouther thing we did notice after a few days was 3 chips in the front window which had been filled in but still they should of told us about these. I found customer services quite rude and they seemed like they wernt bothered atall. After a short few weeks we started to come accross a strange ticking noise coming out from under the car which got loader as the car got faster I told them this and they assured me it was because the brake pads needed to be changed so I booked the car in for a service and had the brake pads changed however the ticking noise continued. Now 2 years on I recieved a phonecall from vauxhall stating that there is a recall on my car as there is an electrical fault somewhere I booked the car in and they told me I would have a curtisy car for the day which was handy coz I have children. When I took the car down to get this fault fixed they then decided to tell me that I would have to pay for the days insurance on the curtisy car which they didnt think to tell me on the phone and that the excess on the car would be £500 if I had an accident well im sorry but my own car ins is not that high. I asked the lady what car I was going to be using and she took me out to it well im sorry but there was no way I was being given this car it was sooooo much smaller than mine and to me not big enough to fit the britax carseat in the back so I didnt take it instead the woman was really rude to me and kept saying it wasnt her fault well its not mine either there was a recall on my car so surely it is their fault. In the end I eneded up bringing my faulty car home and rebooking it back in to have the fault fix. My overall experience was not a nice one it seems to me that they only bothered with me whilst selling me the car but once they had their money they relly dont care about the aftercare of their customers I strongly recommend that nobody buys a car from these people as they really do rip you off and treat you shockinly .

“I bought a Zafira VXR that had been very much cared...”

written by Jazzyg98 on 04/08/2009

I bought a Zafira VXR that had been very much cared for by the previous owner down near Brighton. It had been machine polished and fully detailed the day before I picked it up. 3 days after I bought the vehicle it needed a software upgrade so I took it to my local dealer, Evans Halshaw - Hemel Hempstead. They phoned me saying that the part that is needed would not be in until the following day and so asked if they could keep the car in over night ... I was a bit gutted as I had only owned the vehicle for 3 days but said yes. 11am the following day I got a phone call saying that the part was now not coming in and I could pick the car up (even though nothing had been done). I drove it back to work (private car park with barrier) and an hour later I had my lunch which consisted of me going out and giving the car a quick detail. I noticed I had a new scratch (approx 32cm) on the back wing of the car which looked like it had already been touched up! I tried to phone them to explain about the scratch and that it must have occurred whilst it was at the garage... and after a whole 7 days of chasing, the service manager finally got back to me saying that it could not have been them as it was already touched in! I am 100% certain this scratch occurred during the time my vehicle was at Evans Halshaw as I love this car a lot and know the condition of the paintwork was immaculate. I'm disgusted in how they have handled this, they left me hanging on to hear from them for a whole week and then couldn't even provide a satisfactory response or any kind of customer service. I most certainly won't be taking my vehicle back there. Luckily I have another dealer locally, Northern Motors in Watford and I have found their customer service is excellent. I will always be taking my car to Nothern Motors, Watford and I would advise anyone in the Hemel Hempstead area to do the same.
