“Money for nothing”

Written on: 13/06/2019 by Lindsey433 (1 review written)

I purchased a single trip insurance to Germany at the same time I arranged the holiday. The holiday was cancelled by the company due to lack of numbers, the company refunding the money paid so far, fine. I claimed on the insurance just to get the premium back and was told 'due to it being outside of the 14 day cooling off period they would not be refunding the premium'. This is blatant money for nothing when I said as much they said they had been providing cancellation cover since the booking… Read Full Review

“Avoid”

Written on: 27/08/2018 by 497Massey (1 review written)

We took out a ‘Gold’ single trip policy with Sainsburys Bank as soon as we booked our dream holiday to the Maldives, thinking as we hadn’t gone for the cheapest cover that we would be covered for all eventualities. It cost us £65.30 for 2 weeks cover. Unfortunately hubby received 2 fractures to his lower left arm a few weeks before departure. We informed Sainsburys Bank travel insurance of all updates of the incident even up to & including a ‘fit to fly’ confirmation from the… Read Full Review

IVE JUST TRIED TO MAKE A CLAIM AS MY HUSBAND HAS A LETTER FROM A DOCTOR TO SAY HE WAS NOT FIT TO FLY ON MEDICAL GROUNDS I HAVE NOT CANCELLED THE HOLIDAY. THE REST OF US WENT ON THIS HOLIDAY, I HAVE BEEN TOLD I CANNOT CLAIM WHICH IS UNFAIR, PRETTY DISGUSTING AND A COMPLETE RIP OFF!!!!!!! HE WAS UNABLE TO FLY THROUGH NO FAULT OF HIS OWN. … Read Full Review

“Holiday Insurance that EXCLUDES package holidays!!!”

Written on: 20/07/2017 by 184Parsons (1 review written)

We took out an Annual Multi Trip policy with Sainsbury's. On the basis they are a name you could trust. We booked to go to South Africa and then on to Mauritius in December 2017 with a reputable travel company, who pulled together 7 flights and 3 hotel bookings for our trip. A few weeks ago the travel company informed us that the Game Lodge in South Africa we were booked in, had burnt down. The alternatives were (1)Cancel the whole trip and loose the £2,500 deposit. (2) Pay an additional £540… Read Full Review

“Travel claim”

Written on: 08/09/2015 by tedsennoj (1 review written)

This company brokers another companies insurance (Cigna Insurance Services) and when I made a claim for cancelled holiday due to diagnosis of bowel cancer I was directed to yet a third company Firstassist insurance services .These people are still trying to default on paying the claim despite numerous telephone calls e-mails and letters. From my experience I would strongly suggest not using Sainsburys for any form of insurance… Read Full Review

“You think you're insured for a year . . . . ”

Written on: 21/05/2014 by imBell479 (1 review written)

We took our annual travel insurance after declaring my husband's pre-existing medical condition. It seemed a good deal with comprehensive cover. My husband suffered a second occurrence of his pre-existing medical condition three-quarters of the way through the annual policy. This re-occurrence left him with no lingering long-term effects and he needed no further medical treatment as a result. I rang Sainsburys, explained the position, confident that all would be well as I had done everything… Read Full Review

“You would do better to burn your money”

Written on: 14/11/2013

This company does everything it can to avoid paying out. I had a bag stolen while on a two-week holiday in the US. Despite a wide range of evidence of ownership including credit card statements, witness statements and a statement from the place the bag was stolen from, they are refusing to pay for anything, however young or old, that hasn't got the actual original invoice. They won't even accept that I was traveling with underwear.. Payment proposed is hardly more than 10% of the actual… Read Full Review

“ Any Excuse Not to Pay”

Written on: 18/10/2013 by michaelbells (1 review written)

Wow, I thought going with Sainsbury ( a household brand)for my yearly travel insurance would be a safe option. Boy! was I wrong. After my rucksack was stolen ,15 mins after arriving at our resort in Spain. I reported it to the local police & got a report from them. I lost car keys, two passports & a Kindle plus other items. Apparently a charger & case is an accessory on as Kindle and programming of replacement car key is an optional extra ( try getting into a modern car without a… Read Full Review

I was in hospital in Switzerland for 7 weeks when I was told I could be discharged I informed Sainsburys insurance people who had been dealing with me while in hospital only to be told they had some issues and they would get back to me to arrange my repatriation after hours of inactivity and lies on the phone I organised and paid for my own taxis and flight home Saving them a fortune in air ambulance that they were talking about . When I claimed my expenses back they penny pinched and did not… Read Full Review

“Worst Insurance company ever”

Written on: 23/08/2013

Took payment twice, then had to pay a third time as they had messed up the cover. Having to wait 10 days for refund on first 2 policies. Adviser very rude, blamed me for their mistake. Last time I looked Tunisia was not in Europe, they say it is! Also, discovered if my husband had taken ill he wouldnt have been covered as worldwide doesnt cover you for heart conditions. Even though I had input all of his info regarding that, they took the payment but didnt make clear that he wasnt covered… Read Full Review

“waste of money”

Written on: 06/08/2013 by IsabelMiles (1 review written)

we insured our daughter for a year's study in Japan primarily for health cover as Japan is very expensive. As it turned out she lost her passport and missed a flight home so we had to claim. We have now discovered that the insurance policy only covers for one trip and that because she came home for christmas the policy was void thereafter. This was totally unclear when originally taking the policy. The terrifying thing is that she could have been ill and we would have been exposed to tens of… Read Full Review

“It's never their fault!”

Written on: 19/07/2013

Commenced a policy and we had to make minor alterations to ensure we were covered for our medical conditions costing an extra £ 24.00. Sainsbury's failed to take the extra money and called us back two months later explaining the error however this was blamed on us as the bank declined payment although the main policy had been taken the same day and there was ample funds available. Having called them several times they fail to explain what's gone wrong or that we were covered in the period. The… Read Full Review

“I will always use Sainsbury's/First Assist”

Written on: 25/04/2013 by UK_student (1 review written)

From reading the reviews below, I can honestly say it seems like I used a different travel insurance. I had a medical issue out in the U.S. and had a have a small biopsy. From the start, they were sympathetic and quickly confirmed every stage of the diagnosis. Thankfully the biopsy came back clear, but they were already looking into flights for me to come home. I had an issue with a treatment that had been billed to me, while the rest of my treatment had been billed to the insurance. I dropped… Read Full Review

“Thank you Sainsburys”

Written on: 20/03/2013

My husband and I flew out to Cyprus on holiday, on our 4th day my husband became seriously ill with pnewmonia and broncitus. He was taken to a private clinic where he stayed for a week, which meant I had to stay in the hotel for an extra week. I was a bit concerned when I spoke to the person from the insurance company as he was very unsympathetic that I was in a foreingn country with my husband so ill, I just needed to know what to do and what was covered, I felt very concerned as we had never… Read Full Review

“UK office hours only”

Written on: 13/06/2012

I took out travel insurance for 6 months and then wanted to extend it for a further 3 months when I decided to stay on. I sent them an email requesting a quote for this. They emailed back to phone them in office hours to discuss it. With the complete lack of phones and only sporadic internet in the rainforest where I'm saying, the time difference and the fact that I'm working abroad, I cant possibly call them in office hours. I emailed back explaining this and asked if they would just email… Read Full Review

Written on: 17/10/2011

Sainsburys/First Assist do their very best not to honour a claim. Emails go unanswered and costly reverse-chargers services lines keep you on the line before refusing to even allow you to make a legitimate claim. Avoid like the plague… Read Full Review

“This insurance is not worth the paper it is written on.”

Written on: 08/07/2011

I had an nasty inspect bite on holiday, I had to see a doctor, have antibiotics, antihistamin etc., The cost for doctors visit and medication was 78 euros. When i phoned sainsburys insurance to claim they said they could only pay me £11. 00. after taking off the £50 excess. They worked out the euro rate to suit themselves. When we changed our money to euros 23rd June the rate was just over 98 euro to the pound. We used to shop with sainsburys but not any more, its a matter of principal. It is… Read Full Review

“My wife traveled to Morocco for a few days with a long...”

Written on: 23/02/2011 by cliveclive (1 review written)

My wife traveled to Morocco for a few days with a long standing fried. Her fried lost her passport on the way to the airport, possibly in the hiatus with the threat of riots on the day of their departure. Missed flight, has to re-but tickets. Apparently as we have 'basic' cover clause bla bla says loss of important documents is not covered. Also as she has traveled cant get money back, even though in 14 days cooling of period. Cool? I am incandesant. This is not basic cover, they are spending… Read Full Review
