Would Give 0 Stars If I Could :(

Absolutely shocking service! Would not buy a car from these people ever again. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!

My husband and I went to view a car last year and there were some minor signs of trouble with the engine (oily-smelling smoke upon startup), but we were assured that this was due to a recent repair and that it would be fine. The car ran fine upon the short test drive (~10 minutes) that we did and it appeared that the car was in decent shape. We were assured that the car would be MOTed upon purchase and we looked over the car to see if had any of the regular faults that particular model tended to have.

We negotiated a price and were told that they couldn't do a better offer as it was implied that if we did get more money off at the beginning, it would be less money they'd be willing to spend if anything went wrong. (RED FLAG!)

We made payment via BACS as recommended by the salesman (RED FLAG - always make your payment by card so you can dispute the payment if something comes up!) and were told we could collect the car in a few days.

We lived about an hour and a half drive from Bristol and DURING THE DRIVE HOME, we had an engine warning light come on. Within a few days, it was discovered that one of the front brakes was clamping and not releasing, which caused it to overheat. Indeed, even the convertible roof failed as well as several other warning lights appearing on the dash.

We were advised to DRIVE the car back to Bristol ( on a major motorway with the BRAKE clamping on the wheel!) so they could repair the car. This was all done on my husband's time. We were not given a courtesy car (which while it is not required, for a purveyor of luxury vehicles to offer it was a bit of a surprise considering they KNEW it was our only vehicle and we were making 3-hour round trips to drop the car off). We went several MONTHS without the car, constantly ringing them to find out what repairs were allegedly being done and when the process was completed. They kept saying it would be a few more days (which they were correct, if a 'few' meant several weeks).

Once we went to pick the car up as we were assured the work was completed ( ha! ) - another 3-hour round trip for us. We attempted to operate the roof and it broke before we even got it off the lot!!!

Eventually we got to the point where we explained we did not want the car back, we wanted the money back instead. It had been months without the car and they had become increasingly terse on the phone. They were always conveniently 'getting on a train' or 'driving' when we tried to call and on several occasions they refused to speak to me. We invoked our Consumer Rights and eventually what happened was they dropped the car off when neither my husband nor I were home (without explaining that they would be doing so) and dropped the key in the letterbox without even indicating they had done so. This was MONTHS after initially giving them the car... and the kicker? NOT ALL OF THE WORK PROMISED WAS DONE! MONTHS LATER!

This is a *short* version of what was a very tedious experience that should not have occurred at all had these people had the slightest bit of integrity. Work that was claimed (in writing) to have been done was not done and there was no explanation of this when the car was dropped off.

People can make up their own mind about this company, but I can assure you, we will NEVER be using this company again. I have never had such a shocking experience with a lack of customer service like I saw from the people at Hamilton Cars.

Very Happy To Recommend.............

I work in the motor trade myself and therefore know a lot about cars and that there are a fair number of rogues in this business. I saw a BMW Z4 3L 2006MY advertised on Autotrader that looked the part for sale at Hamilton Cars of Bristol.

I rang at 6.55PM on Thursday evening not expecting them to be there. I was wrong, the phone was answered by a salesman who impressed me from the offset of the call.

He told me the car had just come in, it was a wonderful example, unmarked body, drove just as it should and he had already sent the wheels away to be refurbished and then it would have premium tyres fitted.

When I explained I was in Hampshire and he was in Bristol so I was wary about driving so far to look at a potentially over described car he said for a deposit he would get the wheels and tyres fitted, give the car an oil and filter service and a fresh MoT and bring the car to me on his low loader.

I was wary about giving a deposit and I am a fuss-pot so doubted his definition of wonderful, unmarked would be the same as mine. To cut a long story short, he sent me pictures, updates from the Thursday evening until the following Tuesday evening when the car was delivered.

He is an unbelievable non-pushy workaholic. He was sending pictures and progress up to midnight on the Thursday and then again at 04,30 the following morning while waiting for the gym to open.

We then communicated very regularly with updates while the car was being prepped.

I am very happy with the car. As it was 10 years old I did expect the odd stone chip and I must admit there was the odd one but I am pleased with the car and it was just as I hoped. If the car was not as excepted then I would not have accepted it and he would have refunded my deposit.

He was keen for me to keep all of the e-mails where he described the vehicle for my safety and peace of mind.

He is the founder of the company, a very decent guy and truly is a non-stop workaholic.

I would happily buy from him again. My work colleagues thought I was mad buying a car without seeing it. In fact I thought I was mad too but I took a leap in faith and am pleased to say my faith in him was very worthwhile. All of my work colleagues were impressed too.

Beautiful Car, Brilliant Service, Super Experience.

I recently embarked on a life long quest to buy a TVR Chimaera a 'keeper' is what I was looking for. I had been searching the internet in all the usual places, Pistonheads, Autotrader, Car and Classic and stumbled upon a recently advertised Chimaera with Hamilton Car of Bristol.

I rang the dealership and spoke, at length, to an advisor, whom I later learnt set the business up over 20 years ago. He went into a massive amount of detail about the car and the preparation process that the car had been through prior to offering it for sale. It transpired that they had carried out what equated to, by the sounds of things, a mini restoration.

Long story short, I travelled a fair old distance and arrived on a Saturday morning to view the car. I was greeted warmly by him and his staff and was dazzled by just how beautiful the Chimaera was that I had driven some two hours to view. I was expecting great things following our lengthy telephone conversation, but I was simply blown away by the cars condition and the dealers knowledge of a TVR's.

I was struggling to maintain my composure, which I think I made evident (sadly) as was looking to haggle. I went on an extensive test drive and just melted with the roar of the V8, the car was to die for and having looked at circa 11 elsewhere I knew this was a great find.

I failed terribly to get any discount, but what I did manage to buy was a simply stunning example of a fast becoming rare British Sports Car from a man who knew just about everything there is to know about what he was selling. The car had been prepared with exceptional attention to detail and was as close to new in its feel to any I had seen!

Thank you Hamilton Cars great job and a VERY happy customer here in the Midlands Bravo!

Proper Cars. Proper People

having read the few reviews that were on here I was a little apprehensive but they did have car that I really wanted. I called the advertised number and spoke to one of the proprietors and had a detailed run through on the car I'd phoned on. In fairness I had a very good and accurate description and got the feeling that they did know what they were talking about at an early stage. I buy a lot of cars and I realise what a used car is all about ie it's not new , but he did run through the car as candidly as I could expect. I arranged a viewing for the following Saturday and came with my husband. The car was looking beautiful, shining and polished and better than I could have hoped for. I was greeted by the guys there and talked through the paperwork, the cars history and taken on a test drive. I was nervous about driving such an expensive car as Id never spent that level of money on anything except a house but they relaxed me and I felt like they really were used to dealing with this type of car . They made me and my hubby coffee and made us feel like we were buying a car from the main agents. Very happy , would certainly recommend them for a well presented quality car and was more than comfortable spending more than £50000 with them. Fabulous Porsche great to deal with. Will buy my next one there.

I Run When He Started To Shout.

I bought my car two years ago. Since then I took it for the MOT a couple of times there, and to change two tires. They got it done for me, in a decent manner and price.

Third time I took my car to that place to get my brake pads and rear bushes replaced they quoted "something around 300 pounds" but two days later they called me and told me that it was going to be more expensive, since in the other garage (they do not fix anything, just take the car to a third party) had realized that the parts were more expensive than what they thought. I refused to pay more, so agreed to get the brake pads changed only.

They called me to let me know that the car was ready, and also to tell me that instead of 110 pounds, it would cost me 190 because the other garage charged them two hours of labour. I discussed with them and I ended up paying 150 pounds.

My boot handle was a bit creaky, but the next day I realized they had broken it entirely so I went back to the garage to ask for a replacement. After getting the salesman trying to fix the handle for 1 hour he poorly engineered something that would not last longer than 1 day.

When I politely told him that I was disappointed with how they had dealt with the situation the salesman started to shout at me saying that he was very piss.ed off, and he was getting close to his patience, that I showed up without notice and he did not want to know anything else from me.

I asked what I had done wrong, and he was so excited that I did not understand a word of what he said (shouted).

I was really in shock, but as soon as I realized I was going to get nothing else from them (apart from, maybe a punch in my face) I said nothing and left.
