Woolwich Home Insurance

I had insurance with the Woolwich because I initially took out my mortgage with them. They used a number of brokers and I was happy with the service. However, since they were taken over by Barclays my premiums doubled annually until I was paying nearly £4,000 for buildings insurance only on a small terraced house having made no claims for well over thirty years.

It was my own fault for not moving to a different insurer sooner. I went through a broker who found it difficult to believe how much I was being charged. I am now paying 85% less for buildings AND contents cover with a major insurance company.

If you decide to go with this company because they offer a good deal I would advise you to keep a very watchful eye on your renewal premium. This is the business practice of a bank that thinks nothing of taking advantage of the good-will of long-standing customers like myself, I wish I could give them less than one star. I am absolutely disgusted with the way I was treated. I will never have anything to do with Barclays or the Woolwich again and I advise anybody thinking of insuring with them to look at other options.

MY experience of woolwich home insurance - The worst Insurance company I have ever dealt with. They take no reponsibility at all. Without going into to much detail Aspera ( the company they use to handle the claims)are just as bad the staff are not helpful, and have very bad attitudes. They are more interested in saving their own backs than dealing honestly with a claim. They cut corners and then say it is your fault. I would not recommend this company to anyone.

Two years later, and I am still reeling from the shock of how good an insurance company Woolwich Home Insurance were.

I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone. Good service at a time like that was invaluable.
