We Had A Vaillant Ecomax 835/2e Installed In 2005
We had a Vaillant ecoMax 835/2e installed in 2005 and have been very pleased with it. We did have some minor problems with it losing pressure soon after installation BUT please note: this was not a problem with the boiler, but with a minor leak on a radiator. However even then it's very easy to top the water up and bring it back up to pressure. Water supply is good - provides a nice powerful shower - though as with all combis it's a "one tap" boiler: if you turn on another hot water tap whilst taking a shower you'll know about it! But not a big problem, even with a family of four - and worth it for the improved efficiency over a non-combi. Just had a gasket replaced but this was the first thing it's needed in 5 years and according to the plumber is not unusual. All in all, highly recommended.
Same system installed on 23.3.2005 and an annual service has cost labour charge only. You may like to consider a FERNOX TF 1 filter. Easy fit and good preventive maintenance. I appreciate the extra loft space created when the water tanks were removed. Ours drives 10 radiators and has never missed a beat....touch wood!

We Are Running The Heating And The Hot Water Off O
We are running the heating and the hot water off our Vaillant Ecomax 835e and will never go back to the standard system of tanks in the attic and airing cupboard (all a bit too Victorian, leaky for me, has too much potential for plumbers 'rip off syndrome'). Of course occassionaly it won't start if a rad needs bleeding, but the pressure gauge is right up in the front so you can see what's happening and the water inlet is just on the underside, can't be missed. If this happens on a regular basis get your rads and pipes checked you might have a leak somewhere ...Read the manual first time round as yo should with any such device and your laughing, all nice and warm!Solid piece of German engineering well worth the investment.
I found this review very helpful because it is clear concise & to the point!
We've Got A Vaillant Ecomax 835e. This Boiler Is A
We've got a Vaillant Ecomax 835e. This boiler is always going wrong.
It's like a primadonna - you bleed a radiator - it needs repressurising (and it won't work until it's pressure is up to nominal levels) - and get to know how to do this yourself or you'll pay callout fees every single time it needs doing.
We've had to have a new "armoured pipe" - that's supposed to withstand pressures way above normal working pressure. Also the vent was letting by, so needed a new one - and the biggie - the heat exchanger - £500+vat to replace. Supposedly never goes wrong, was leaking, a few weeks out of warranty.
Lovely!
Needless to say I'd say stay keep your distance from this product, unless you like haemorrhaging money.
Few comments. If you bleed the radiator you are de-pressurising the system. If it needs a lot of bleeding then thats a lot of de-pressurisation and you'll always need to re-pressurise. The error codes are there to protect the boiler (and stop it firing up if empty of water!).
Bleeding radiators indicates a leak, which is probably the root cause of your problem. This is most likely radiator valves or the pressure relief valve, although it could be pipes or boiler connections. Find the leak(s) and fix, you'll not need to bleed often at all. Armoured pipes and changing vents (I assume this means pressure release valve) probably over-pressured the boiler and hence wrecked it. Almost any component will blow if over-pressured and it's bad luck it was the expensive one. This is like removing the fuse on a telly and replacing it with a nail. It'll work until something goes wrong in which case it will toast everything or burn your house down. Sounds like you've a case of 'muppet plumber' here mate! The worrying thing is if the leak is still in your system you could end up going through this all again. Hope this helps...John
