“Refund of deposit”

I rented a motorhome back in March, just before Easter. The check in and check out process at the Barnsley depot was fine and I was immediately told the vehicle had been signed off and that I would receive my full deposit back. The vehicle its self turned out to be missing essential crockery and I was sold an additional gas canister that I didn't need, but that is incidental. “Never use this company”

Would never touch this company again and AVOID AVOID AVOID. Their staff are extremely rude once they have their money from you. I too am now nearly 3 months down the line and still no refund of the damage deposit, even though they admitted that there’s no damage or extra costs etc. I am now going through the small claims court and the bank to get the money back. Afternoon. Eventually the credit card company pulled through and returned the money. I found if you call them (national motorhomes) up and threaten with court action, they soon action your claim.

Do not let them say ‘I’ll send an email to the claim team’ as in two weeks time they’ll say ‘have you requested in writing for your deposit to be return’.


As soon as your 28 day period hits I would call, email, write letter and everything short of a pigeon carrier to communicate the fact you want your money!

We hired a Motorhome for three nights on 15/05/18 from Moss lane Byley we found the staff friendly and informative. The Motorhome had been cleaned to a very high standard inside and out. Campervan experience was good but deposit has never been refunded, apparently if they give you a campervan that’s just been returned from getting its engine “repaired” and it breaks down while you have it on hire they charge the customer for the RAC call out. “Problems obtaining refund of deposit”

At the start of the process, National Motorhomes seemed like a well run company. However, when I collected the motorhome I wasn't allowed time check it fully because the manager wanted to close the depot early. The motorhome was sound mechanically but I found a number of faults in the living area. National Motorhome customer service is really terrible. When I collected motorhome I’ve taken photos of all damaged parts. And when returned they said I have damaged it. Hi, I too am experiencing the same problems and after reading all the comments below i cannot see how they are allowed to operate like this.
Not only am i getting charges to my account for late payments it is causing stress.

Can i ask which Obundsman you have have contacted. I think if everyone was to do this then it may help ressolve.

Hi I emailed the motorhome company complaints again and told them I had written to the ombudsman and I have had my deposit returned to my credit card within 3 days. The ombudsman was the main one that comes up under a web search. They also replied within a couple of days.

Unbeatable Hire Ltd AKA National Motorhomes I rented a motor caravan from Unbeatable Hire Ltd only after checking that Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) would cover any damage claims as there were a worrying amount of complaints against the company about disputable extra charges on completing a hire. I feel your pain! We had a similar experience but thankfully we had booked via Wowcher so have managed to get them to back us and get the money back but this company should be shown up and CLOSED DOWN! The person we dealt with in finance was by far helpful but it might be worth trying her!

Well what a surprise we are experiencing exactly the same thing!!! Booked in November and not got anything back as yet despite keep ringing up. Have now been told that it will be Monday before we find out if we can have this repaid... then told that it could be another week or so due to their Merchant banking!! Definately going to ring card services and report this. They fined you if you return the vehicle back late but will not return your deposit back on time... its a joke we shall NOT be using this company again and advise anyone else not to either.

Well I have had to cancel my motor home due to circumstances and trying to get a refund is something else. When your booking they reply to emails straight away and contact is good. But now I need a deposit refund and it was cancelled with in 24 hours there’s no contact from them at all phone calls ignored l, emails ignored so when we do a book a motor home now at the end of the year it will not be this company.

We hired a 2 berth motorhome from National. Convienient location for collecting and given full handover instructions. The van was very clean and in excellent condition. We had a few issues with hooking up electrics at our campsite - not a problem with van, but site. Called National hand over agent direct and together managed to get the issue sorted.
