“Terrible in all respects - just avoid ”

My leased server with another company was coming to end and I was in the process of moving my sites to another web host.

This required me to update the nameservers in my 123-reg control panel. Easy process, done it thousands of times.

But would you believe that 123-reg were in the process of doing an internal transfer of my .com domains. This meant that it was impossible to unlock them for a period of two weeks.

So there I was, a server expiring and no way of unlocking the domains and updating nameservers, because once a transfer is underway, you basically can't do anything with a .com domain name.

Who on earth at 123-reg thought it would be okay to move a clients domain names without any approval from the client?

I was livid - some sites were down for a whole week!!!

Support was a joke - they just kept telling me I needed to unlock the domain name to update namservers! But I can't do that, because you are doing an unauthorised registry transfer on them. Around and around we went, until finally someone admitted it was all their fault. Not that they could do anything about it by then, the transfer just had to be left to complete.

If you like chasing your tail and going around in circles for days and days, contact 123-reg support. You will have a ball.

Terrible - just terrible and I know what I am talking about because I have been in the business for 15 years and have come across some poor service.

123-reg are the worst I have ever experienced.
