Learning to drive at 50+ is something of a challenge, so I researched the available instructors in my area very carefully. First port-of-call was the DSA's website, where they list approved instructors who keep up with the times. I assembled a shortlist of five, and On Fire were at the bottom, simply because the company name sounded too zippy and youthful for my purpose.

I was picking over this list, when by chance, I saw one of their cars parked by the side of the road, the instructor deep in discussion with the young pupil. She got out and went into her house, but the guy sat for a full ten minutes, obviously writing up notes on the lesson, as he didn't change the paper he was writing on when he was talking to her (just call me 007, hehe). I took a risk, booked a course of ten lessons, and discovered in our general conversation that they were getting disgruntled pupils from my top four!

My lessons were unhurried, with no impatience if we overran the time, or I had a 'senior moment' and tried to squeeze myself between a parked BMW and a speeding bus. Ahem. And I got to learn at my own pace, and was trusted when I said, 'I know that. Let's move on.' Their relaxed style suited me perfectly, and we had a lot of laughs along the way, but they were exacting when it came to pass standard - perhaps more fierce, as there were a couple of things I did on my test that they wouldn't have let by!

Delighted with my pass - time and money well spent with an impressive team of driving enthusiasts.
