St Sulpice Sofas Two And Three Seaters - Terrible Build

Please do not be fooled by the attractive design of the sofas, or the “hand-crafted” claims on the website. In our experience these sofas are poorly put together and Leathersofasonline will try to ignore the bill of goods act which covers consumers against unsatisfactory manufacture of goods.

Here is our story:

In July 2012 we bought a 3 and 2 seater St Sulpice style sofas from Leather sofas online. A slight mark on one arm but otherwise satsified.

In October 2012 stitching unravelled on 2 seater cushions . Firm contacted and stitching repaired.

In June 2014 complete collapse of right hand seat in 2 seater. Firm contacted but we were told that outwith guarantee therefore not interested. Contacted firm again to remind them of sale of goods act and tell them that I was “happy to leave a detailed account of my experience on every review site I can find”. They accused me of threatening their members of staff! However, rather than contact the police they agreed as a gesture of goodwill to send a technician who repaired the collapsed seat. Apparently the springs had “fallen out of their clips”.

In April 2015 a spring started to protrude through the right hand seat of the three seater sofa. Really busy at work so didn't get around to complaining straight away.

In June 2015 the repaired seat in the two seater collapsed again. Got a local upholstery company to repair the sofas while we were on holiday. We asked them to appraise the sofas for reasons they had failed. They found that a supporting spring was missing from the right hand side of the two seater (see photo 1) causing the pocket springs to tangle in the sprung seat cushion and then collapse through the hole. This was the same seat that had been “repaired” once before. They also found that the springs had worn through their pockets in the 3 seater and were sticking directly up into the leather seat (see photo 2). In their professional opinion there was a lack of adequate supporting springs in both sofas.

The upholstery company replaced the now useless pocket sprung seat cushions with upholstery foam and increased the number of supporting springs in both sofas. This cost us nearly £700.

Leather sofas online were contacted with the photos, conclusions and invoice of the independent local upholsterer and asked to resolve the situation. We hoped that they would offer to contribute to the repairs as the construction was shown to be unsatisfactory with a supporting spring missing and we have had so much trouble from their products. They did offer to send another technician but went back to the “out of warranty so not our problem” line as soon as they realised we had already had them repaired. Who can live without anything to sit on while wrangling with a company (who bodged the previous repairs) about their warranty?
