Having provided a review of another speed dating company I move on to Speed Dater UK.

Living in the North West of England I have attended a few speed dating events in the last 4/5 years and so far my success has been lets say limited. As of late 2011 there are only three mainstream companies that actively run speed dating events in the North West. One of them is Speed Dater UK that confinds it's events to Manchester only (I don't know if they have experienced a lack of interest in Liverpool!).

Anyway Speed Dater is run parallel with a internet dating site, so therefore in any case you have to produce a profile prior to booking an event. This is so after the event concerned, you can log on to the site and select your own matches. Generally it helps if you add a bit of information about yourself and add a photograph as this helps jog the memories of those potential matches.

Unfortunately two things vex me about Speed Dater UK. All speed dating matches are done through their site. For the sake of argument - if you match with a nice young lady from an event - you do not get their direct contact details such as phone number or e-mail address. Any initial contact is done by logging on to the site and communicating as you would on a standard internet site. This feels like an obstacle thrown in your path. The second thing that vexs me is the 'friendship' matches. Now, being a reasonably intelligent soul, I find the issue of friendship matches pointless. Basically you have a three minute date with a girl, if they don't like you enough as a potential romance match, they can select you as a friend. If you then tick them as a match and they tick you as a friend then you both match as 'friends' (hope my explanation is not complicated!). Anyway my point is - speed DATING - when did you last DATE friends. If you did score a friendship match with a girl, would you organise a 'friendship date only' afterwards? I'll let you decide on that one!

Any how back to the actual event. I attended a Speed Dater event in Manchester in February 2011. The event took place in the basement area of a popular city centre bar and it was quite a good turn out. There must have been approximately 18-20 people from each sex and the age group was around 25-35 (I was 30 at the time so I fell mid way in the age range!). The selection of women was quite decent and I selected a few as yes matches. I did not even bother with any 'friendship' ticks (as I previously mentioned). The night seemed to go reasonably well then the following day took a different turn!

I logged on to the site late afternoon and selected my matches. I think the night before I had ticked yes to around nine or ten girls from a total of twenty. I viewed the results to see I had no matches yet at that time (sometimes you have to be patient as others may not enter their matches straight away or as quickly as you owing to personal committments like work). Anyway, I logged on to the site over the next few days and still no matches! In the end two of the girls I had ticked yes to did enter their ticks but did not select me as a 'yes'. Astonishingly around seven other girls that night never even entered their ticks on the site.

Now I would describe myself as a reasonably good looking 31-year-old bloke who is 6' in height, slim build and I have all my own hair. I own my own car and have my own house. I sometimes struggle to understand what women at these events actually want in an ideal partner. I don't expect to spark interest in every female I meet (life is not that easy!) but I would at least expect to generate some attraction. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but perhaps alot of women who attend speed dating are after a 'alternative' night out with the girls and are not really interested in forming new relationships with men at these events. This is just my opinion by the way, so please don't take offence to my comments!

Considering an event like this costs around £20 to attend and you have your drinks and travelling expences to fork out I believe it is too much of a financial gamble to take in future and I was left feeling my money would have been well spent on a typical night out with friends and an attempt to pursue members of the opposite sex the 'natural' way.

I went speed dating last week in Kent and it was loads better than I thought it would be. The company Singles Speed Date were great, very professional and the hosts (two girls) made me and the other 'speed daters' feel really welcome.

I would really recommend that others try this out, as definitely beats trying to meet people in a bar or night club. The whole speed dating thing really seems to work, suppose because you meet face to face like normal. So I was amazed how quickly the 3 minutes went, but also that you do know whether to tick the person or not. So overall a very fun and enjoyable night and I even got some matches from a couple of lovely ladies!!!! So I am a very pleased customer. :-)

Also went to a Singles Speed Date event in Maidstone, it was so much fun and well organised. They are a really professional company and would definitely go again. Well recommend Singles Speed Date.

I attended a Singles Speed Date Speed Dating event for age group 25-35 in Canterbury. Was a little sceptical. but have to say was really well organised and met some great people. Would definitely recommend to other Kent singles. I went on my own and wasn't sure if I would feel out of place, but the majority of people arrived on their own and I felt really welcome and was introduced to someone others straight away.

They also run other events like salsa and casino nights for singles which I'm going to give a go. Well recommend www.singles-speed-date.co.uk.
