Hi Folks,

Signed my 7 year old son up for a trial, who will be home schooled for year 3. He did a few stages of their questions which appear to be randomly allocated with large amounts of repetition which he found boring. There are very few, if any, lessons showing methods for solving problems, just bank after bank of questions.

I also noticed there were no applied maths questions with text so I queried this by email. I was then told by someone that Komodo didn’t contain a lot of applied maths questions and was only intended to complement and not replace school maths.

I then thanked them for the trial but advised that it wasn’t suitable for my home schooled child. And here comes the shocker. I then got another rude email.

Wow, hard core stuff. You have been warned. It’s pay up and shut up with Komodo it seems. Don’t dare to question them or you face abuse.

I've 3 girls all of whom would rather do anything than numeracy. But Komodo has consistently been something they want to do and I've seen their numeracy improve as a result. It allows them to work at their own speed, and be rewarded or have goals to work towards. It's beautifully designed and made with kids in mind, rather than teachers or parents. They particularly love the fact that they can change their icons or send each other messages - it's this kind of detail that makes the site so effective. Unlike a lot of the sites they go on, I'm kept up to date with exactly what they're doing and can follow their progress. I've already recommended this to a number of other parents at school.

We've been using Komodo maths at home for six months now and I'm very impressed. After trying a few other websites it's obvious that a lot of careful thought and design has been put into Komodo.

What impresses me most is that since we've been using it my son's numeracy has improved and he's more confident about maths.

Here are some things I particularly like about it:

Before you start you enter the details of your child and do a short test. Then a qualified maths teacher assigns a learning plan.

The lessons are quite traditional and practice based and it's not a game. This means my son concentrates during the 15 minute lesson and I can follow what he's doing.

You "short cut" stages when your score is good enough - so you don't repeat the topics you're good at onto the ones you need practice at.

Topics are explained with short videos in a very clear way.

Komodo sends email reports after each session so my partner is kept in touch even when he's away working.

The reward system is great - it's very easy to use and I can choose the rewards.

It works on all our devices at home - the pc, mac and ipad. Even on my android phone but it's a bit small you really need a tablet not a phone.

The design is nice and clean. It's very user friendly and every feature I want is already there.
