Rhino Records Is Unprofessional And Incompetent

Here's a quick rundown of my horrid experience with Rhino.com:

I pre-ordered the limited edition Monkees "Head" Clear Vinyl LP in August of 2011 on the day the product was announced. Of course Rhino charged the record to my credit card right away. After the record was officially released in September, the order status on their webpage said that my copy had 'Shipped'. Perfect.

Months go by... no record. Finally, five months later I emailed Rhino to check on the status of the order. I think I was patient.

They emailed me back simply stating that the item was "out of stock - Discontinued" and that they would be refunding my credit card.

Why did Rhino take my money from me? Why did their website say that the record had shipped to me? By the time I contacted them, it was too late. The 500 copies that they pressed were sold out. What's worse is if I had not emailed them to ask about the status of the order, I would not have seen my money again.

Rhino didn't even offer me so much as a promo code or free shipping on my next order to say sorry. They offered no explanation as to why they screwed up, nor did they assure me that it wouldn't happen again. I have been a good customer of Rhino's for the last few years but they obviously don't care. Good customer relations is not on their high priority list. When I emailed them to complain, all they said was this (copied and pasted from their response):

"We do apologize for this. We did credit your account we do apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. "

No attempts to make this good. Basically they're just saying "Get over it."

Social media has made the world a smaller place and word gets out even faster about bad customer service. I'm disappointed.

Rhino need to take a cue from Amazon to see how a professional online store operates.
