I have had an account with NATWEST for 7 years (I'm only 25 so that is all my adult life so far) i have always had my wages paid in to my account with them and have always used their services (e.g credit card).
I took out a personal loan with them when I was 23 and my rate was 11% - I took this over 2 years. They were not quick at sorting this out they took forever they did not communicate with me so I had to call them all the time to see where things were up to and to add insult to injury - after I'd signed all the agreements and everything a good 2 weeks into the process they turned around and said "did you know your eligible for a 9% rate". I found it unbelievable that they failed to mention that to me 2 weeks earlier.
Having paid that personal loan off I am now looking for a another personal loan this time to take over 3 years and because i bank with natwest I thought I would make some initial enquiries with them. On their website for the amount I wanted to borrow their rate was advertised as 9.9%. However, when I rang up and went through all the ins and outs etc, they said they would offer me the amount I wanted but at 15.7%. When I asked why it was so much higher than on their website they said that the rate on their website is just the best they could potentially give somebody in general, but the best deal they could give me is 15.7%.
So I had a previous loan that I paid every month by direct debit for 2 years (that they made money off) which is now paid off in full , my wages are also paid every month into my natwest account and the best rate they can give me as an 'individual' is 15.7%. Absolutely outrageous. I know rates advertised are subject to change based on personal circumstances but a 6% increase on the advertised rate is beyond belief especially when you consider that I am a faithful customer at NATWEST who has never missed a single payment of my previous loan or credit card with them.
I'm so disappointed in my bank. So as a result I have gone with a Tesco personal loan as they offered me a rate of 10%. NATWEST are now the losers in this as I will no longer be paying my wages into my current account with them.

Natwest Are Terrible. I'm A Recent Graduate Who Ha
Natwest are terrible. I'm a recent graduate who has a graduate loan with them already - when I first applied, they said to just pop back in branch if I ever needed to increase it and they could do this with no problems.
The original application took 4 days from applying to recieving the money which in fairness was pretty good.
But at the beginning of August I applied to get it increased as I knew I would be moving house at the end of August and needed a bit of help with a deposit/rent as I wouldnt recieve pay from work until the month after.
In my opinion, 28 days is plenty of time.
The guy in branch said ok no problem, the whole process shouldnt take more than 5 days .... time dragged on, he kept making excuses and asking questions when I supplied every bit of evidence possible towards getting the loan approved. After 20 or so days, it hadnt even been sent off to the lending team for a decision!!! He came up with some stupid excuse, but basically I think he forgot to even deal with it. Trying to get hold of their so called 'local branch' numbers is virtually impossible, and nobody seems to pass messages on.
Well the day before my supposed moving in date came, and I was hassling them for a decision as I had to leave my current house the next day to move into the new place (which i couldnt even put a deposit down for as they took so long) ... and i was also worried about the possible prospect of being homeless!!
He rang me at 5pm that day saying it had been declined... and he basically said'i didnt think they would approve it anyway as they very rarely do unless they know you will be coming into some inheritance money or are going into an extremely well paid job''. This just put the icing on the cake ... he FAILED to mention that when i applied at the beginning of the month!! So that basically left me in a terrible position of having to move out of my current house with nowhere to go!!
I could have applied to get a loan somewhere else if he had told me that to start with.
Overall they are so un-efficient, and dont care about anyones individual circumstances.
Avoid them and go with another bank if you have a choice!
In partical avoid the Kingswood branch in Bristol, this is the branch i dealt with and they are all absolutely USELESS and never get anything done on time!!
