Does Anyone Know Any Hacks For The Philips Dvd634

Does anyone know any hacks for the Philips DVD634 DVD Player that will enable it to play hired discs that are often scratched? Out of 8 hired only 2 have played, I tried 3 copies of Tuxedo ! Could it be that if i do the multiregion hack this could clear the problem?

The Philips Dvd634 Dvd Player Seemed To Play About

The Philips DVD634 DVD Player seemed to play about every format, so purchased in late Oct 2003 (also bought Sony DVD for another room on same day). In December, the Phillips completely failed, not reading any kind of disc. Took to repairers who had to send it back to Phillips for repair. Got dvd back just before xmas and guess what, it lasted until March before it failed again. Repairers say it the Laser again, so the machine is currently back with Phillips for its second repair. Meanwhile, the Sony which is used every day continues to work perfectly. My advice to you is to give the Phillips a very wide birth (unless of course you want to get to know the repair man)

Fyi: I've Just Bought A Philips 634 From Safeway F

FYI: I've just bought a Philips 634 from Safeway for £69.99 (special offer at the moment) Is there a better DVD deal? I find the picture quality excellent. I've only had it a day so I'm still investigating compatibility. It doesn't like DVD +R so far. Can anyone give more info about jpegs etc? (The jpeg hack is fine).

If you want to be able to view JPEGs from a specific folder, go into PREFERENCES / SMART NAV and select WITH MENU rather than NO MENU. See manual page 17, although this only mentions using this setting for MP3 playback. When you load a JPEG CD it will then display a list of folders for you to select using the arrow and OK keys. It truncates the folder names if they're too long, but it still reads them OK.

I've only had mine a day or two, and have been working out how to display JPEGs by trial and error. In case you don't know, you can rotate them, and change the interval between displays (1 to 20 sec) using the arrow keys. Does anyone know if there are any other JPEG functions I haven't found yet?

Hi burton, The jpeg hack is as follows:

1) open the disk tray

2) on the remote control press 0 0 0 0 then press 'angle' - this will enable jpeg

3) 0 0 0 0 'subtitle' will disable jpeg

So far I've only managed to read jpegs from the CD root. Does anybody know any different?

Just Bought Stated Dvd Player From The Orange Mobi

Just bought stated DVD player from the Orange Mobile store for £60 and got a free phone into the bargain. For the price I'm well chuffed and it works a whole lot better than my three year old Sony DVD player. Orange have them on sale until Xmas

I Bought This Dvd Player As An Alternative From Wa

I bought this DVD player as an alternative from watching movies on my PS2. I didn't think that a player this cheap (£110) would be much better but I was pleasantly surprised.

I don't know much about top-end expensive players so I'm gonna compare this one with the PS2's DVD capability. If you have a PS2 and are thinking that you may want a seperate DVD player then maybe this review will be useful to you.

The most striking thing is the sound difference - its much punchier, better bass and overall throws the stereo out very nicely. Picture-wise it is very sharp indeed, no problems with bleeding or anything else I have seen in review of cheapish players.

The black on screen is very black - none of the greyness that I used to get on my PS2.

You can skip around chapters in an instant (no slight pause). The fast forward and freeze frame works perfectly well.

I tailored the output (widescreen, 4:3, PAL etc), sound and general options quickly and easily.

The 4 or 5 disc memory facility is pretty useful if you like watching a bit of one film, then flit to another and want to swap back (like I do)

I have given the mp3 player a go as well and this worked great without any problems. My only gripe with this is the absurdly small amount of track name text that it displays on the main screen.

Most people would be hard pushed to even hear the fan on this box working during a film (my PS2 was always too noisy and one of the main reasons to upgrade).

The remote is simple, not too good looking but does the job.

Overall, I am really pleased with this purchase. Mainly because I didn't think that I would get this sort of quality for just over £100. Its a great all rounder and I can't imagine that you would see much difference in quality until you thought about spending up to £200 instead.

This is not much of a review, more asking for info, I wanted to know if this player was any good and this review did not help at all.

Lone Ranger.

If you have enterd five zero's it's effectivly region free so it should play all regions, mine does.

The System Plays Really Well And The 3d Surround S

The system plays really well and the 3D surround sound is pretty cool if you only have the TV speakers. A little on the featureless side when it comes to looks. I'm happy with it as is is easy to hack for other regions, however, like the loneranger before me I too am looking for someone to let me know if there is an RCE workaround.

The Player Is Nice Looking And Easy To Get To Know

The player is nice looking and easy to get to know. Picture quality is very good for the price and playback of every format is good. If Philips solves the problems with compatibility with some DVD's the rating should be very high. But in the mean time...

I have exactly the same problem, except that it has got worse, and now won't play any DVDs at all. Wish I'd bought a cheap one!!!

The Philips Dvd 634 Plays Everything But Does Anyo

The Philips DVD 634 plays everything but does anyone know the region hack? It's set to region 2 and I am sure it's just a case of a few commands on the remote.

Lone Ranger.

Hi KEV In Scotland, My 634 plays absolutly everything that I put in it (up to now anyway), the disks that fail to play, are they by any chance the same manufacturer and if so it may just be a compatability issue, try a different make of media and see how you get on.

Regards, Lone Ranger.

Lone Ranger.

Hi, Does anyone know if the Macrovision protection can be disabled on the Philips 634?

Regards To All, Lone Ranger.

IVE TRIED PLAYING COPIED DVD ON PHILIPS 634 WITH NO SUCCESS, SHOULD THIS CODE ALLOW ME 2 DO THIS OR DO I NEED TO GET IT CHIPPED

t.h.i.s..

I can also confirm the 00000 hack works although I have not played a disk from any other regon than 2. My question is - has anyone in region 2 (i.e. PAL TVs) played a region 1 (i.e. NTSC TVs) on this DVD player?

The reason I ask is that i'm really tempted to buy the last series of 24 on region 1 for £25 less than it is on region 2!

Cheers...

Hi

For jpegs pictures :

(1) open the tray

(2) on the remote control:

0 0 0 0 angle (jpeg on)

0 0 0 0 subtiltle (jpeg off)

(3) switch off

You can read jpegs pictures on the cd's root, because repositories aren't show.

For SVCD, no problems at all, I try for XSVCD now but it's just because I have time to loose ...
