“wow not a good experience”

written by platoalf1953 on 26/11/2022

We have had over 12 dogs through the years, including a delinquent jrt and a re homed patterdale both of which turned out to be just fine after a lot of work.We had a home vetting phone call this morning, the Lady did not ask whether this was a convenient time,It was not.The call lasted 12 minutes untill my wife terminated it so distressed she was nearly in tears with rage,You never asked one question you lectured us on dog needs, how people we would abandon a dog rather than return it,how we expected a perfect dog and how we lived so far away it was not a great idea. When asked if we walked our now deceased patterdale dog off the lead my wife said yes she never got chance to say only in our wood/lane we have no neighbours for over a mile, the tirade carried on for well over a minute or too until she had to terminate the call because she was so distressed.I dont doubt you love dogs dont abuse people you dont know.I listened to the call and I am still shaking with rage 2 hours later. If you get to read this you know who not to contact and bth I never leave bad reviews this is my first.

I’ve been a volunteer for RR since 2015 . I lost my own staffie to cancer . It makes me very sad that disgruntled people who don’t get always the dog they see on the web site write such dreadful reviews about RR . Do these people know how many dogs are euthanised because they are abandoned , owners have died or they have behaviour issues . RR saves lives . Dogs might only have seven days in the pound and that’s it . DEATH comes next . So who are you people ? What right do you have to do this rescue down . Their are many many happy failed fosterers me being one and loving owners who have given an RR dogs forever home . These are the lucky ones with out this rescue they wouldn’t be here . So think on . The only ones who suffer are the Dogs

“Dogs needs always come first”

written by SueRaffles on 12/01/2022

I had to rehome my dog and it was a very upsetting time for us both. RR were fantastic they spoke to me on the phone and I travelled to their centre with my dog. They were fantastic and I have no doubt they saved my dogs life. I will always be grateful for their help and understanding. Please do not take any notice of the negative comments about RR they will only place a dog where they will be happy and safe. You might want a particular breed but doesn't mean they are suited to you and your circumstances. I know this from my own experience.

“100% Would Recommend Rescue Remedies Dog Rescue”

★★★★★

written by Chris67Ma on 10/01/2022

I have been a supporter of Rescue Remedies dog Rescue now since May 2015 when my son and I became volunteer walkers for the dogs in their rescue. We really enjoyed doing this especially as it was a way that the dogs in their care were able to get some exercise on walks in the wooded area surrounding the rescue. The dogs loved this and you could see their excitement the moment we entered their kennel and they knew they were going for a walk. Volunteers walking dogs is important as it is essential that they get out for walks and exercise. The rescue also have a paddock area and in the good weather they could have a good run around and burn off more energy. Over the years a lot of work has been done to ensure the dogs accommodation is adequate. When possible some dogs went out for foster breaks either for a day, a weekend or sometimes longer during school holidays. One thing I love about Rescue Remedies dog Rescue is the fact that they will take all dogs regardless of any behavioural issues. I have seen dogs come into the rescue who have been abused by their previous owners and are naturally very nervous. This rescue will work with these dogs in order to gain their confidence and it is amazing to see the turnaround in these dogs, who then go on to be homed. Whereas some rescues will only take dogs that have no problems, Rescue Remedies will take in dogs who are on death row in dog pounds, as well as dogs who have had a history of abuse, whether it be from a family home or dogs who have been in puppy mills or similar. If Rescue Remedies had not taken in these dogs then they most likely would not be alive today. When it comes to homing the dogs the main ethos of the rescue is to ensure that each dog is homed into a suitable home. Each dog has their own needs - some can't live with other dogs, some don't like cats while others can't live with children, plus other special needs. At all times I noticed that the rescues main purpose was the care of the dogs in their care and to ensure that each dog was homed in a suitable environment based on their individual needs. As well as a supporter I am now also an owner of a dog from Rescue Remedies Dog Rescue. The dog we adopted was one of the dogs I walked as a volunteer. I had already got to love her on our walks. We then fostered her for two weekends, after which we then decided we would like to adopt her in August 2015, which was the best decision we ever made. When the time comes I would without a doubt adopt another dog from Rescue Remedies. I would 100% recommend Rescue Remedies Dog Rescue to anyone who is considering adopting a rescue dog.

“Compassionate and Responsible Rescue”

★★★★★

written by Angie1756 on 08/01/2022

We adopted our American bulldog from RR a year ago. She is a wonderful dog whose rehabilitation began the moment she entered the rescue. This is a small rescue staffed entirely by volunteers who place the welfare of the dogs before money or convenience. The application process is rigorous and they take the time to explain their dog's needs and your expectations. This makes a homing feel both supported and safe. Their dogs are not easy rescues and it takes time to find the right families and avoid failed homings and further distress for the dogs. But is is clear that everyone at the rescue is desperate to find their dogs loving and supportive homes. The volunteers put aside weekends to help us meet the dog that we applied for and were informative and honest about what to expect. This is a small rescue that really needs support to continue their amazing work. The care that is taken to address the needs of each dog is really impressive. I recommend it to anyone who is looking to adopt a dog that may well need a little bit more than dogs from other larger rescues.

“Excellent Rescue”

We adopted a dog from here years ago and they were very helpful and good enough to actually suggest a dog we hadnt considered who was perfect. Its a rescue entirely staffed by volunteers in their own time and I know they have struggled during the pandemic when everyone suddenly wanted a dog. What needs to be understood though is its a rescue that puts the dogs needs before anything else which combined with few volunteers means comms can suffer be patient and realistic and they will see you through but they dont necessarily have the easy dogs.

“Best Rescue Centre”

★★★★★

written by NessaCramp on 02/01/2022

A wonderful dog rescue that only matches the right dog to the right rescuer for their forever home. We rescued our Staffie 7 years ago and have not looked back since. We had a list of 4 dogs we liked the look of but we were refused 3 of them because our lifestyle would not suit those dogs. The checks on us were very stringent and extremely worthwhile to both our dog and us. They nearly always get the pairings right as we can vouch as Bailey has been the most wonderful pet and family member and if you look at all the pictures and updates on Facebook and the forum all of the dogs who have been honed are extremely loved and very happy. If you do get refused to have a particular dog there is always a very good reason why. Will be going back when we next need a dog - hopefully not for a very long time! Thank you to all involved in the rescue centre

“Excellent ”

I have volunteered for RR and have also adopted my staffie Sasha from them and they are excellent. They have their dogs best interests at heart and many of the dogs they take in are considered lost causes by many others rescues, and would otherwise be euthanised. This is why they are so careful about who they will allow to adopt the dogs that come into their care and why it takes time to go through the process of adopting. I have personally seen people who consider themselves ‘experienced’ dog owners be rejected, and with good reason. Just because you consider yourself to be the right person, does not always mean that you are. Also with regards to timeliness of responses, this charity is run 100% by volunteers - they have no paid staff and therefore the administrative duties can be delayed as 100% of their resources priorities are to first care for the dogs who have often been through horrendous experiences.

“THE BEST RESCUE”

written by on 01/01/2022

My husband and I were very impressed with the strict processing of our application to rescue a staffie. From our initial application right through to the day we collected our beautiful boy we were treated with extreme courtesy. We appreciated and fully understood and accepted the life time on lead policy that RR insist upon. The care and future of their dogs is of the utmost importance to them and their adoption processing and procedures reflect this. Thank you to all the staff we spoke to on the telephone and met in person. You matched us with our perfect pooch and we cannot thank you enough.

“Rescue Remedies:Where the dog's needs are the most...”

★★★★★

written by Mrs-FizzCrick on 16/11/2021

I am so full of admiration for Rescue Remedies, all the animals (and birds) they have rehomed. To see how their lives are enriched from being dumped, living in atrocious conditions, on the verge of being put to sleep, being an afterthought to become wonderful family members, enjoying life how they should have from the start. We have adopted two dogs from RR - Fizz an older Patterdale and Cricket, a very, very sensitive Fell Terrier. Both have been wonderful additions to our lives and we relish their terrier ways. Everyone at RR was so very helpful even when I asked probably really stupid questions. The charity is very professional and centred on the animal, just as it should be. We have adopted from other charities, including The Dogs' Trust, so have something to compare RR with. When I need another dog I know where I will turn and just wish that I lived closer so I could walk some of their current intake. Too many people make the mistake of thinking that a dog will be perfect and then blame it when it isn't - this is real life. Thank you so much to the organisers, volunteers, kennel staff, fosterers and supporters of this truly wonderful charity.

“Very rude doesn’t actually want to listen”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Williamsonai316 on 24/03/2021

We applied as a family to adopt one of the current dogs, after reading up on her history and doing our own research we decided to apply. After several weeks we got contact to ask for further information. The lady on the phone explained all the process trying her hardest to deter our interest with threats of prosecution if we didn’t comply with guidelines. I agreed to the seriousness of rehoming a troubled dog but was still raring to meet her. The lady called back the next day and went through the whole conversation again, she was talking to me very derogatory the whole time. Questioning me about letting the dog on the chairs and why I don’t have a stair gate the final straw was when she asked my reaction how I would react if the dog reacted to a parrot! I don’t even have a parrot! When I explained we were going completely off subject she was very rude would not give her name and promptly put the phone down. Everything that she explained about the dog was completely different to the feedback of the dog walkers that actually see these dogs and take them out. If these people want to regime dogs maybe I would suggest someone else to assess the potential new owners as this lady loves the sound of her own voice.

“Committed volunteers”

★★★★★

written by on 25/09/2020

It’s unfortunate I am not meant to mention names. One particular volunteer has spent her time (all are volunteers) talking with me regarding adopting a terrier breed. Unfortunately, I didn’t meet the necessary requirements for a particular Patterjack. She talked me through why it wasn’t possible. Even better, she keeps me informed of other dogs that come into the rescue that are suitable for me. That’s commitment to the welfare of the dogs and I appreciate that and a kindness to me. The staff are volunteers giving their time for the dogs in their care to match up with the right home. The volunteer I am in contact with is knowledgeable about terriers and the right person/people for them. It’s a tough time with Covid about and I applaud their commitment.

If they havent the time to be civil to other applicants why would the volunteer have time to keep you informed when it is obvious that they have no intention of rehoming dogs just go through the woe is us act ... and I am very suprised that other rescues send dogs to them without checks . Avoid at all costs Poor dogs being incarcerated with RR

“Rescue Centre? ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Prince321 on 24/05/2020

Very sad to say our experience reflects the bad experiences others have apparently had. Having cared for our beautiful collie x for almost 17 years (1999-2016), we now felt ready to offer our home to another collie. We found a lovely 2 year old collie on the website (still available) and recognised many familiar traits from the descriptions offered. We duly filled in the comprehensive form and waited...and waited.. Apparently we're not suitable or responsible enough! Furthermore--the staff at Rescue Remedies couldn't be bothered to let us know their decision. I was checking emails and answerphone messages every day for over 3 weeks. I eventually emailed Lynn and received the damning decision. I sincerely hope these dogs do find good homes....?

“Avoid Avoid Avoid”

Wow! Amazing to see all the bad reviews of this place and just how many times they have been agreed with. But not surprising. If you are looking to adopt, go elsewhere. Go to Battersea, Dogs Trust etc. Anywhere but here. It's very obvious by the comments here that the folk who run this place (btw they are not experts) have very little social skills and an abundance of self importance. A trait that put above the need to re-home the dogs in their care unfortunately. We have been turned down (finally), despite having a lifetime experience with dogs and going through all the process. It took ages for a response at all! And then just a one line email. Plus they do NOT even attempt to match you with a dog. In fact it very much felt like they couldn't be bothered. We attempted to phone and were told they were very busy and to go elsewhere rather rudely and hung up on. I would certainly question their qualifications and am searching for a place to report them. I intend to give this same review wherever I can as I genuinely worry at how much care the dogs are receiving and would like it to be checked. As I said, you will find a better reception and a trusted dedicated rescue place elsewhere.

We had the same sort of response. Why are these dogs there for months on end, when there are experienced, responsible dog owners who, like us, fit their so called criteria, being turned away? Particular dog we applied for months ago is still there. So sad and needless.

“Caring kind people”

I took a friend who wanted to rescue an older staffie and give them a happy life from when we arrived you could see the kindness of the people in caring for the rescue dogs. They were helpful and explained what needed to happen and timescales etc. Now my friend has a lovely 12 year old staffie and they both love each other, enjoy lovely walks together and a cuddle on the couch. Thank you lovely people for making happen.

I’m glad your friend met there standards and took a dog home and I’m sure some of the staff / volunteers are lovely
But They Obviously never spoke to the person on the phone who’s mission seems to be keep these dogs out of loving forever homes.

“Rude and Unpleasant”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ewCarney224 on 22/04/2019

I filled in Rescue Remedies Dog Rescue questionnaire form for a JRT in the Gatwick centre. I was rung a week later. I came in from the garden and heard a voice on my answerphone so picked up. I didn't know who was on the phone and whoever it was said "Oh, your screening your calls". I was lectured for around half an hour about Jack Russells, I was even told I didn't train my own family Jack Russell, he allowed me to train him. She told me I appeared to only have had any experience of one Jack Russell, to which I agreed, feeling guilty about it! When I told her our dog had good recall and went off the lead to be thrown balls, I had another very angry lecture. She was also angry that I'd put on my form that I had a six foot fence around a secure back garden except from a 4' gate, and duly lectured me that their short leg JRT would get over this. Perhaps if he's got wings! I will never deal with these people again. She was really unpleasant, unhelpful, scathing and downright rude.

“Give A dog A Home!”

★★★★☆

written by SalGal53 on 27/06/2011

When my husband Mike and I decided we would like to get a dog, my first thought was to go to a dog rescue centre and not get a puppy. I trawled through several websites especially the one nearest to me (Weathersfield) but didn't see anything that took my eye. I then came across Rescue Remedies website which was a small centre saving dogs about to be put down and mainly terrier type dogs. I have had two Staffordshire bull terriers before and know them to be loving and loyal dogs. The website has some good photographs of dogs wanting to be homed and their information. It breaks my heart to think of the way some of those dogs have been maltreated in their young lives. Once I decided on a couple of dogs I would like to see I filled in an online form. I was duly phoned up and an arrangement for a home visit was made to suit. That went fine and we were told we had a suitable home for a dog. We then made an arrangement to go see some dogs. It was quite a long way from us as it's over the Dartford Bridge but that was not a problem for us. We were shown two dogs and allowed to walk them and see what they were like and my eye was taken with a lovely tan/white Staffie who was named Ronnie at the time. He was about 18 months old, the Rescue Centre had neutered him and had saved him from being put down a couple of weeks beforehand by the Council Pound as no one had come to claim him. We signed on the dotted line and paid a small fee and took possession of our new companion. He has a bit of a quirky character and we renamed him Chesney! He is housetrained and is great with my two young grandsons, who love him! Rescue Remedies is a registered charity (No: 1139407) and needs all the help it can get to keep doing the wonderful job they are doing. they are holding another online auction sale to help raise funds and you can find it here: http://rescueremedies.myfastforum.org/forum103.php Please help support Rescue Remedies to keep doing what they do so well. Have a look at the website and maybe bid on an item - all proceeds go to the charity. Many thanks, Sal xx
