Taking A Winter Trip To New Zealand Can Be A Very
Taking a winter trip to New Zealand can be a very cheap way of taking an enjoyable ski/boarding season. Compared to many countries the backpacking facilities in New Zealand are of a very high standard - but Wanaka offers fantastic hostels at reasonable prices. And the area is stunning. Situtated right on Lake Wanaka and surrounded by mountains and hills. It's too breathtaking to describe.
The hostels are clean, comfortable and friendly. 30 mins drive will get you to Treble Cone and Cardrona ski areas. Further afield are the amenities of Queenstown and its ski areas - Remarkables and Coronet Peak. Generally Cardrona and Treble Cone offer the best conditions throughout the season.
Taking advantage of New Zealand is best done over a long period. Season passes can be bought cheaply before April so with your own equipment, hostel costs and some good books (the nightlife is good but gets repetitive) you can really concentrate on improving your slope skills. NZ attracts some excellent ski and board instructors from all over the northern hemisphere.
However dropping in on Wanaka is worthwhile, but be warned you'll be missing out on all the area has to offer throughout the winter season.
Please beware - the ratings are considering this is shared backpacker accommodatation, self-catering.
