This Year I Will Have Spent More Than 48 Nights At
This year I will have spent more than 48 nights at this excellent hotel. When I first came to Ankara in January this year, I booked a hotel in the real city center and although the hotel itself wasn't bad, it was difficult being around the hotel the evenings after seven as a woman walking around by herself. I am a researcher and I am working in the local archives for some weeks. After a terrible happening I checked out at the other hotel and because I was around Tunus Caddesi the days before (Kavaklidere) I had seen this hotel, so I checked in here, and: it was definitively the best choice I could have made.
the hotel was built less than 2 years ago and what caught my eye in the first moment I entered was the love to the detail. Everything is set professionally and fondly. The hotel has 64 rooms. I've never been to the two suites, but I stayed already in a standard room and a luxury room, and both were very clean, more than comfortable and let me forget from time to time of being abroad. Especially the moderately but suitable use of bright wood and pastel colors gives a soft atmosphere to the rooms which are bigger than I had expected.
the service is very good to excellent. Never had any problem concerning the room service, cleaning, technical things (as internet in the room, cable). There is a winter-garden where the breakfast is served, a buffet. A good mixture of continental and Turkish breakfast (from sweet to salty).
A roof restaurant we can find at the 6th floor. The half of it is on a terrace from where you can see (all) over Ankara, the Parliament, and beautiful sundown's. The la carte restaurant serves once more a good balance of local, traditional and European, continental meals. However I can't tell you anything about the wine at the restaurant as I didn't have any.
There is a fitness-center (small, but helpful, because it is difficult to find places in Ankara for sports (as jogging, walking etc.) in the city; a swimming pool, sauna, and a business center (I've never been to the last one).
the staff are very polite, professional and what was for me important or even essential, far away from importunate. Everyone has a professional distance, but helps right in the moment you need something. Also here an excellent balance of good, attentive and friendly service.
the prices for the rooms (except the suites I have no idea of) are really acceptable when you look at the price-service-measure. The Hotel is near to Kizilay, where you have the two metros of Ankara. Two bars in front of the Midas Hotel. The embassies and ministries just a foot walk away as the Tunali area is, a place with different restaurants, bars and caf s. The atmosphere is European or western.
especially for woman traveling alone, the Midas Hotel seems to me the best place to stay. If you like a high standard of hotel business (hosteller) but not the salty prices and the largeness and anonymity of the well-known hotel chains.
I can recommend the Midas Hotel with any restrictions to everyone who wants to stay in Ankara for a few days or for longer and feel more than comfortable. I wanted to share my experience with you looking for a good place to stay and reading reviews (as I did) to make a good choice for a booking. I hope this review was helpful for you.
