Paignton, Esplanade Hotel

The Esplanade Hotel must have been one of the worst accommodations for decorative order wee have every stayed at. Wallpapers was peeling off the walls and the exterior looked tacky. The rooms themselves were pretty awful our was small and the bathroom was tiny. This old building is a maze of corridors and sometimes you need a compass the find your away around.The lift was decrepid. The waiter service restaurant was efficiently run but the meals times were very restrictive. Latest time to eat was 9 0'clock for breakfast and 7.45 for the evening meal.The food itself was quite nice but with mean portions. The hotel served all food on small plates so it looked if you were getting a fair sized portion. it took us a day to work out why we felt so hungry so soon after eating. The evening entertainment was very amateurish. This hotel is certainly one to give a wide berth as it is really poor despite it very central location. Would we recommend it. Not even to our worst enemy.

The Esplanade Hotel is in a central location on the Paignton seafront a few minutes stroll from the main shopping area. The hotel itself is very tired . The exterior looks as if had had nothing done to it since the 195's. The rooms have a television, tea making facilities and a very small en suite bathroom. Ours had no natural light. The wallpaper is peeling off the walls and the daily cleaning is not very thorough. We were on half board basis and for breakfast it was a full English but portions were rather mean. the Evening meal again waiter service offered a good choice. The drinks service in the restaurant was appalling we ordered wine which did not arrive until we had started our dessert. We did not order wine the second night. The reception staff were excellent. we went on a 4 night midweek break and provided you can tolerate the very poor decorative order and small bathroom then it was good value for money. The evening entertainment was OK but a little second rate,
