Foxwood B&b Is Very Comfortable Accommodation In L

Foxwood B&B is Very comfortable accommodation in large en-suite room with TV/Radio. Beautifully furnished. A separate small place for tea/coffee making (with the tea and coffee and milk, etc.) and utensils for snack meals. Enjoyable vegetarian breakfasts and, even if you're not vegetarian (as we are not) we didn't miss the bacon at all! Jo Fox (proprietor) discovered what guests liked to do and then made suggestions about where to go and what to do, every day. She supplied maps, leaflets and brochures. this certainly saved us wandering about aimlessly all day. This cost £30 per person per night and was worth every penny.

There is so much to see on the Isle of Skye, the first thing being the bridge. When we visited 15 years ago there was a 15 minute ferry to the island, you're over the bridge in 5 minutes now. Even the story of that is interesting. Portree is the main village on Skye and has grown up so much since our last visit. Shopkeepers warmly welcome tourists and often give you a cup of coffee whilst you browse, like 'Skye Batiks, for instance. The scenery is so magnificant, for instance the Black Cuillin mountain range and the smaller Red Cuillins, on one side and the 'McLeod's tables' on the other. The Lochs are breathtaking. Dunvegan Castle, the home of the McLeod's has much to offer. Boat trips to view Seals, Whales and Otters are available from Dunvegan. All over the island, in the most obscure places, are restaurant facilities. For instance the 'Three Chimney's' (one of the top 30 restaurants in the world! is on the one track road leading to Skye Silver at Glendale near Dunvegan). My favourite eating place was 'Arriba', a Bistro at the top of the harbour in Portree. The welcome and food were wonderful.

Even the drive from home to the island is magnificent too. Once you get to Tyndrum and begin to go through Glencoe it is spectacular. If you are familiar with the old Scottish folk songs you can actuallly see place names along the way, for instance 'Lochaber' and 'Rannoch Moor' from 'The Road to the Isles'. You'll travel the whole length of the 'Bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond'. Wonderful week!
