Gretna, Garden House Hotel

The hotel is conveniently located for the Gretna wedding venues and the Gretna Gateway retail park and it does look pretty from the outside, however the inside is dated but clean. We stayed there as we were attending a wedding reception there. The bar prices were fair and the bar seemed well stocked. The rooms were very expensive, when I first rang to make a booking for 1 night stay in a double room I was quoted £55 (I thought that was reasonable) then she stated if we wanted full en suite facilities then the room would have to be a deluxe room at £95 a night so we were paying £40 for a shower. Not impressed but with the room being deluxe I thought it would be worth the money.

The room was dated and in desperate need of a lick of paint and some general TLC, this was worse than any standard room I have ever stayed in., The TV didn't work the shower was dirty and difficult to get to the right temperature. Overall I was really disappointed.

I would not stay here again, well not at those prices anyway. If the room rate was cheaper then maybe as the location is good.

I had my wedding reception here and it was fab. Most of the staff where very helpful bar one moody bar maid. The food was out of this world all my guest where very impressed. One of my guests stayed here and they where very happy with their room. The only thing I would say is the toilets next to the bar need a bit of tlc. Overall I was very happy with what I received from The Garden House Hotel!

My husband and I have just returned from a very enjoyable stay at the Garden House Hotel in Gretna. We found the staff very helpful and friendly and the food very good. Our room was extremely clean and very comfortable, with plenty of storage space, and even a proper ironing board and iron. Which was very welcome as we had come to attend our friend's wedding. Overall we had a lovely stay at the Garden House Hotel but wouldn't recommend Gretna as a tourist attraction if you want to do anything other than get married there. There is literally only 1 pub in the whole town that we found, not through lack of trying though!

This is the second time we have stayed here and the service, food, cleanliness and overall friendliness of the staff and other guests is second to none, the first time we stayed there was when we were married, every one of our guests were highly delighted at the food on offer and this was the same again on our last visit.

( The venison is a must to try.)

I was tired and weary, I needed a room and some repast at short notice, as it was for one night only I checked into the Garden House Hotel as it was starting to get dark and I had been on the road for a few hours already.

The room in itself was reasonable in a chintzy kind of way, the bed linen was clean. After a quick wash I headed down for some much needed refreshment and enjoyed a pint of 80 Shilling which was nice, after surveying the extensive menus, which were always a worry, I elected for the a la carte, made my choice and eagerly awaited the luscious fare described, the serving without exception was, in my opinion, from start to finish the worse meal I have ever had in over 10 years extensive business travel. To summarise, all 3 courses were horrid, the ingredients were very poor, the presentation amateur, basically the menu description of what I ordered was in reality totally false.

The service was shabby to match, the manager said he wouldn't charge for the starter, wow, what about the rest of the tripe? Anyway after such a disappointment I went to bed early and hungry. I couldn't face breakfast in the morning, wondering what was lurking in the kitchens, so I checked straight out and questioned why I should pay for the food the manager said because he would call the police if I didn't, nice chap! I paid, minus the starter, and I won't go back, ever, neither will any of our numerous service engineers I could have recommended. Synopsis: Stay away if you expect fair service and like good quality food, it isn't dirt cheap either.
