The Plough Inn, York

My son and I stopped here, despite my son's reservations. He had read the odd damning review on another site.

Eventually my opinion prevailed, based on my wide experience of world travel and hotels; from the most primitive to five star- plus. Negative reviews too often reflect on the defficiencies of the reviewer, rather than the product or service (an old customer care manager, you see!)

Misunderstandings are the root of the very few negative reviews of this hotel.

What visitors should be clear about is that this is a Pub Hotel. The Pub bit is a Foodie Pub of high quality, but things, like ordering are very definitely in the Pub Tradition...... AT THE BAR!..... There are conventional menues, but also "specials" are marked up on blackboards around the walls.

If you sit around waiting, you could wait a long time during opening times!

Once you immerse yourself in a very English Tradition, service is to the highest level. I found everything about the Inn's service to be of the highest quality...... and I AM an expert in these things (although retired).

The rooms are superb.

Attention to detail in decor and comfort are excellent, although us men may find the pretty teddybears on the bed a bit feminine.

Cleanliness is of the highest order throughout.

While I am writing this review, my son is off to castigate critics on another site. He fully agrees with my choice of Inn, in this case and is full of praise (as I am) for the Inn and their staff.
