Kegworth, The Kegworth Whitehouse Hotel

We stayed at this hotel in March 2010 on the way back from Alton Towers and only chose it as Laterooms were offering a reduced price. We arrived after the standard check in time and were told that they were running behind so we would have to wait around 10 minutes for our room. 40 minutes later we were still left sitting in reception with no explanation or update. 5 minutes later another couple came in and were booked into a room straight away with no hassles. The receptionist then quickly disappeared before we could enquire as to why we were still left waiting. Over an hour later we were finally offered our room with no apology for the delay or explanation.

Making our way up to the room there were several health and safety hazzards, one being an extention wire left unattended right across the stairs.

The only saving grace for this hotel was the evening meal and breakfast which were served by very pleasant staff and the quality was outstanding.

The general cleanliness of the room was not great and the heater unit was out of order and appeared to have been for quite some time. The bed was very uncomfortable and the shower did not work properly. The in-room kettle was also dirty so we opted not to use it.

Had we not have had such an awful start to the stay I may have considered recommending this hotel as we may have just been put into a bad room but for the price that someone would have to pay normally to stay here I dont think it is worth it. I did think we were treated different due to the fact we paid less than the standard rate but that theory was put to rest when the couple that got checked in before us had the same deal.

I staying in the Express Holiday Inn near the airport the night before and would recommend going there instead for a very pleasant experience and friendly staff, you also get the room for a cheaper rate and better quality.
