My wife and I had lunch at 1.30 on 19.11.2010 at Axis, table 21/2 chk 2726 having read the reviews in The Good Food guide and the total bill was £75-08.

The food, service and ambience were very good.

We were not, however, impressed with bill.

We have no issue with the 12.5% service charge or the food element of the bill, which were justified for the level of service and quality of food that we received.

Our issue is the drinks element of the bill.

We ordered pre-lunch drinks including a small peroni £4-95, 2 glass of white wine at £7 each, which we estimate to have been 175 not 225 cl each and a cup of filter coffee at £4.25 each. The total beverage bill before service was £21-85. We believe that this is excessive.

Theirwebsite lists sample menus but no drinks menu as far as we can see.

This spoilt an otherwise pleasant lunch and frankly would deter us from visiting Axis again.

I took 20 clients to a "Film Night" at Number One Aldwych.

You are welcomed with a glass of champagne, enjoy a three course meal (fabulous food) and then move through to their private screening room for a film of your choice, accompanied by pop corn and more wine!

Everyone enjoyed themselves so much we are going to do it on a quarterly basis. The staff looked after us superbly.
