Never Again, These People Are The Most Vindictive

Never again, these people are the most vindictive and argumentative people you will ever wish to meet. Katie stays behind her husband all the time and cannot defend her own hotel, and I say hotel loosely. Look closely and see the dirt, the poor standards and the breakfasts that are about as filling as a nibble at bird seed. Try it if you want but it was the worst ever and in future I'd recommend people stay at either the Vicarage or somewhere else but not in the company of the people that run the Belfry Country Hotel.

Please be advised that The Belfry Country Hotel in Yarcombe has been taken over by Neil and Sarah-Jane Martin from September 2007. We are slowly putting our stamp on The Belfry and noting all previous comments!

The Belfry Country Hotel Is Overpriced And In Need

The Belfry Country Hotel is overpriced and in need of a facelift. Their brochure paints a picture of the hotel that is inaccurate to say the least. There is one pub across the street, and nothing else for miles and miles! They present Yarcombe as a quaint little English town, but a pub and a hotel does not equal a town. The hotel is also claustrophobic...the halls are tiny and our room was as well. The restaurant has no windows. Overall, the Belfry is not worth the long drive to get there, and the tariff is outrageous considering what you get.

The review by "jeffcoates" (not a real name we have never had a guest of that name) is disapponiting of course. Negative reviews are never welcome. However it is fair to point out the following:

1. There is NOTHING in our brochure that implies or even gives a hint that Yarcombe is a town, small or otherwise. Our hotel is a former VILLAGE school, in a rural Devon VILLAGE. What more can we say to give a realistic impression?

2. Our restaurant does indeed have windows. Being the former village school and a listed building of course we don't have huge plate glass floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the sea, or what have you. But the windows are 8 feet wide and 2 feet high EXACTLY as depicted in our brochure!

3. All of our guest rooms have full sized en-suite bathrooms, not sinks in cupboard. The smallest room still has room for easy chairs, table, dressing table, wardrobe and so on. Again, a former village school is not a palace and never will be.

4. We are constantly updating and renovating the decor. We have been here just over two years and everything has at least been redecorated once. Full renovation takes time.

At the end of the day if people do not enjoy themselves here, or don't think they get value why don't they tell US rather that moaning on a supposedly anonymous website? We do our best to give people a good time with superb meals and the best value wine list in East Devon in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere in spotless comfort in a lovely part of the world.

We are not overpriced. We are more expensive than a B&B but much better value than many places of lower quality than us. We have over 3000 happy customers on our books to prove it. It is a shame that one individual who would probably not be satisfied whatever they were offered can have such a negative impact.

For anyone reading this who doesn't know us and might want to stay here "jeffcoates" review is a damning one. We would say, don't listen to that, or even don't be swayed by the many good reviews we get. Call us, ask about our place, come and see us. You won't be disappointed.

We Have Stayed At The Belfry Country Hotel On Two

We have stayed at the Belfry Country Hotel on two occaisions in the last 6 months and keep looking for an excuse to go back!

Katie and Paul have made every effort to ensure comfort and that 'home away from home' feeling that we all need at some time....even if it is just overnight to break a journey. The rooms are all comfortable, everything you could need is there. We ate in the restaurant each time we were there as we were constantly inspired by their imaginative menu...just have a look at their website to get a feel of what is available.

We have stayed in many places on our travels. In our opinion The Belfry compares favourably with the Red Lion at Clovelly.

The surrounding countryside is beautiful, the village is peaceful. The local pub across the road is to be visited as well.

Do try it yourself and have a really relaxing break.

We Have Recently Returned From Our Second Visit To

We have recently returned from our second visit to the Belfry Country Hotel. Once again Katie and Paul ensured our stay was 100% relaxing, the most perfect antidote to our busy lifestyle, in the most tranquil of settings. We continue to be surprised by how much there is to do in the surrounding area. On both of our visits we have, following some helpful hints and walking guides from Katie and Paul, set off walking in the Devon countryside, taking in some breathtaking coastline along the way. There are plenty of pretty villages, quaint local pubs and cute tearooms for refreshments en route.

Back at the Belfry, the utmost was done to make our stay as pleasant as possible and to suit our every whim. As for the food, what can we say?! Simply the most delicious, individual, quality, best-value food we've eaten. All locally sourced and as fresh as you can get! As a vegetarian, the choice is the best I've experienced at any hotel/B&B/guest house.

Staying at the Belfry is a wonderful way to relax and enjoy this beautiful part of the country. You WILL come back feeling re-charged and refreshed, promise!

Belfry Country Hotel: Whether You Want A Weekend F

Belfry Country Hotel: Whether you want a weekend full of peace and relaxation or are on a business trip, you will not find a better atmosphere, location and hosts. The real star of this hotel is the food. Having dined at most of the top restaurants I am very impressed with the quality of food available. The hosts are great and do everything to make sure you enjoy your stay.

Belfry Country Hotel: I Have Never Stayed Any

Belfry Country Hotel:

I have never stayed anywhere so much like home. I thought I'd taken a wrong turning to my own dinner party! I was on a 'house party weekend' and what a hoot was had by all. I vaguely remember the night, but sincerely remember that I didn't need to stop for any food on the way back to London - far too full of yummy start to the day. Thanks K&P. We will be coming back.

We Thouroughly Enjoyed Our Long Weekend At The Bel

We thouroughly enjoyed our long weekend at The Belfry, and have no hesitation recommending it as a lovely relaxing place to stay.

Paul and Katie are warm and friendly hosts, with great eye for detail and five star customer care.

Paul is a superb chef, and has created an imaginative menu, using quality local produce and an excellent selection of wines. My mouth waters just thinking about those wonderful dishes!

I Stayed At Belfry With My Husband And Two Friends

I stayed at Belfry with my husband and two friends for a long weekend and we had a simply excellent stay. The rooms are clean, en suite and spacious and the restoration and decoration of the hotel is kind. Paul and Katie were lovely hosts and nothing was too much trouble. The food was just to die for. I found the menu imaginative and eating quickly became the highlight of our stay! Just wonderful. I recommend the Belfry without hesitation......its worth every penny.

Belfry Country Hotel: I Travel On Business An

Belfry Country Hotel:

I travel on business and was working near Exeter for three days. I am usually booked in to anonymous branded rooms where all services come on a conveyor belt. Not here! Even though the hotel was full for the duration of my stay, I felt like I had the place to myself and that I could not want for anything more. The food (particularly breakfast) tasted better than I could cook myself (I am an ex-chef!), and the wine list was most interesting. I could tell that all the ingredients used in the kitchen were fresh and of the highest quality, and that there were no Frozen Brake Brothers meals to be had here! Reading the pages of superlatives in the visitor's book in my room on arrival, I felt like I was in great company for those who appreciate real service, real quality and real value. I am already booked in for a non-work visit next year!

We Have Stayed At The Belfry Several Times Now And

We have stayed at the Belfry several times now and we certainly can't complain. Paul and Katie are very friendly and welcoming. The rooms are very comfortable and clean.

I would recommend it as an excellent based for Honiton and the surrounding area.
