Hotel From Hell

The Great Western Hotel in Exeter is more of a shabby pub with a few vey dated, damp and poorly furnished rooms.

Nobody on reception on arrival. Note to see manager in bar, who was "too busy and will be with you in a few minutes".

No car park. The few spaces outside were full. Had to use public car park over road. Only £10 a night!!

Carpet in reception filthy. Carpet on stairs threadbare. All floorboards loose and creaky. Restaurant not open at 7:30 pm.

Bathroom and bedroom ceiling had lots of mould. Some odd tiles replaced with others of a different pattern. WC lid faded and not matching. Tiles around fan heater not fitted where heater has been replaced at some point. Likewise round WC. Lino in bathroom cracked and split. No heating in bedroom. Bathroom had sliding door that didn't slide unless lifted. Wired phones in rooms with junction boxes on skirting in hallway. All broken and hanging off where they have been hit by vacuum cleaner electric socket on skirting so near to ground that phone charger wouldn't go in. Had to keep window closed due to outside noise from road traffic and trains. People coming and going all night (quite literally) with floorboards creaking and banging with every step taken. Breakfast charged for in room price but not available on Sundays or before I had to leave on the Saturday morning. No reduction in price given.

I could go on and on but really can't be bothered.

Suffice it to say that I will never stay here again nor will I be booking through Bookings.com if this is the standard of accommodation they promote at prices which are higher than the "basic hotels" which at least offer modern comfortable facilities.
