Formby Hall Golf Resort and Spa

I must stress that I'm not complaining about the hotel facilities which judging by the majority of reviews I've seen are excellent. I write as a member of the spa and leisure facilities at this establishment and my gripe concerning penny pinching exercises that us members are subjected to on a regular basis. Firstly, the air-conditioning in the gym is never switched on; instead there are a few fans dotted about which have to be strategically placed by users in order not to pass out while exercising. Secondly, there used to be a water dispenser and cups in situ; the cups were then taken away and the water dispenser has since been replaced with a fountain which apart from the hygiene hazard makes it inconvenient having to fill your own water bottle. Finally, it used to be nice to look forward to a shower; not anymore as slowly over the last 12 months the maintenance person has been working on reducing the time that the shower stays on after having pressed the button. He has done an excellent job as you now have about 5 seconds before it switches off making it nigh on impossible to wash or rinse your hair properly. It has also made it extremely difficult for people such as myself who suffer with joint and muscular pain, as you need to be continually pressing the awkward, stiff button. There are other bug bears I could mention but the meanness is my biggest complaint. Why do I continue paying my money for this inferior service I'm sure you must be asking yourselves. Well, it's very local to me and the swimming pool is lovely (for the time-being, although they will probably start only filling it up half way soon!) I am sure the hotel guests are happy but when it comes to the members, they are definitely treated like second class citizens.

I recently attended a wedding at formby hall golf club. The wedding meal was fabulous as was the evening buffet. However the bride and groom handed their wedding money in cards as they received them off their guests. The amount of cards and money was substantial as they asked for money as a wedding gift. The reception man said he would personally see that all the cards containing money would go into the clubs safe. The bride and groom stayed overnight and when they were checking out asked for the cards the receptionist was supposed to have put in the safe. The cards had GONE all their wedding money GONE. The management after ringing them daily for weeks and being avoided by the manager, compensated the couple. However no apology for the 'missing' cards whatsoever. The cards are part of the memories and will never be replaced. No apology or anything has been given. They also found out from someone else who attented a wedding there that wedding cards and money had gone 'missing' too. Not at all what you would expect froma top class resort/spa. Ruined the whole day which up untill then was excellent

My weekend stay at Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa was the epitome of relaxation and sophistication.

While there, I enjoyed a treatment at the luxury spa, enjoyed a round of golf on the championship course, took a PGA lesson and eat fantastic food in The Brasserie.

It is definately a resort I will be visiting again while on business as it offered the ideal setting to unwind.

Formby Hall Golf Resort and Spa has recently finished the refurbishment of their hotel and must say they have done a really good job. Some of the views from this hotel are amazing also, even if you don't like golf.

The only downside is that the luxury spa isn't open yet, once it is I'll definitely be going back.
