Bates Motel Is Preferable

Cotefields is the worst accommodation I have ever stayed in. Imagine paying money to stay in a spider infested, smelly, cold, uncomfortable, dirty, noisy room with the most basic shared amenities and the owners being the most coarse and unapproachable people whose communication, both written and oral are shocking. Before you even see the room you will struggle to book and get confirmation, you will be confused, have no idea where to go or where anything is as you will receive no welcome of any sort. You will feel as if you are intruding into someone's dishevelled home.

Beds are not fit for purpose and it is impossible to sleep. The mattress was so poor that I counted the springs and they left an imprint on my backside. I killed five large spiders before I got into bed, woke up at three with a giant arachnid running across my face. Room clearly not cleaned or hoovered in weeks. Damp stench filled room which clings to clothing. Wet dog lovers apply forthwith. Appliances were old and would fail pat test on inspection as live plug wires open and exposed. Health hazard and would probably fail an inspection. I grew up in hotels as my parents were hoteliers, this does not raise my expectations of how a hotel or B and B should be but I do understand the economics and the practicalities. This is a pathetic excuse for a business and the landlord should not be public facing as not only will your first encounter with him be an expletive filled rant but then you will have to listen to him through the walls as he continues to swear at his wife. I cannot vouch for the breakfast as I didn't stick around long enough, also I did not want to sit in his office to eat it or listen to him grunting in the kitchen. A review below said it was a home from home. Wow.

Others have said a tent is preferable, I would suggest a cardboard box in the middle of motorway would prove to be a more rewarding experience for the traveller than cotefields. I don't generally write reviews but I feel obliged to warn anyone who is tempted that this will be an accommodation experience that you might never forget.

Good Value For Money

Its close to the town centre but a quiet village location. I slept well. Rooms are not ensuite. Towels were not in the room but I got them when asked. Price 27 pounds per night per person was reasonable. We got what we paid and I was quite happy staying there. I read the earlier reviews some of them are like personal. Obviously the B and B is attached to the family home which is downstair and guest may see things personal when they come down to go outside. However, this doesnt bother me as nothing to do with the guests.

A Shambles- Clearly Don't Care

Unfortunately stayed four nights as there was nowhere else available. Shared bathroom not what website suggests. No towels, toiletries or even a glass. No coffee making facilities. No offer of breakfast. Downstairs reception rooms a mess - open door to toilet with child using it on morning of leaving. I found a shampoo bottle at bottom of bed. Room wasn't cleaned on day before we left.

Charged £50 a night because it was Grand Prix week. I would stay in a tent before I stay there again!

I do agree with u my love. They fight like cats and dogs. The woman is not normal. I think she is a mad from burmer. She thinks that she is a princess that she doesn't have to clean the place for customers. If I were you I request my money back. Is not worth £50. They need to close it down. It is not hygienic for anyone even a dog. I wish if people stop booking at that dirty place. God bless!

Shabby And Rude Owner

This place was a hole. Our room had no toilet although was advertised as en suite. It did have a shower though, shoved in the cupboard with a light in the cubicle (health and safety?!) and it also gurgled whenever we used the sink. The place was generally run down and smelt of damp and strongly of cigarette smoke. Was worried about sleeping in the bed in case I caught something and did not fancy using the dangerous shower.

The male owner was very rude and told us to take our elbows off of the table at breakfast calling us children, we are in our late twenties. He then asked if my partner and I had had a row because we were quiet at breakfast- we were quiet because we were sat in his living room and could hear him and his wife bickering next door.

Overall I could not wait to leave and I would not stay there again for love nor money.

Good Value And Friendly People

I was a bit concerned after I read the reviews below, but in my opinion, unless things have changed a lot, they appear to be unjustified. The place is a little dated and perhaps shabby, but the room I was in was very clean and quiet and I slept very well. It's not a fancy chain hotel, but a good value little B&B.

I can't agree that the person I dealt with was grumpy or unfriendly. As a woman travelling on my own I found him courteous and affable, enjoying his company as he served my breakfast this morning.

It is true that the bathroom facilities are shared so if you want en suite this isn't the place for you, but the bathroom too was clean.

Do Not Stay

Cotefield B&B Banbury We booked this from an advert on the internet and price quoted was £20 per person but when I e-mailed to check availability was told price was £45 per room. We'd booked 2 rooms. As soon as we arrived we knew we had made a mistake. I rang the door bell, no one answered I then stepped inside (door was open) and asked the man (owner?) in his very smokey room if this was the B&B he said yes I'll show you to your rooms. He then left us and that was that, no other conversation! Rooms were very dated with cobwebs on the walls. No tea/coffee making facilities, not even a glass. No toilet in rooms just the one toilet for all the rooms in the one shared bathroom, so if someone was to have a bath/shower you had no toilet to use. We had to clean the toilet seat before using it as it was covered in pee stains. My room had a shower cubicle but my sisters didn't. We were off to a wedding reception so whilst getting ready wanted an alcoholic drink. I went and asked the owner if I could have a couple of glasses please as wanted to have a vodka and after making me feel guilty for asking for glasses he gave me two. At this point I was in the kitchen with him, what a mess, very dirty with food/saucepans/crockery everywhere. , We had a good reception and returned back about 1.30am went to bed and surprisingly slept well even with the beds were only small singles 2'6" and my husband is 6'4". We were woken in the morning by the world and his dog stomping past our room to use the toilet. I went down to see if I could get us a cup of tea and as I walked in the dining room was asked by the owner if we wanted breakfast. I said yes please and he said what do you want" as if I was asking for something I shouldn't. I said cooked breakfast please and he replied "why don't you have another vodka". I said I don't want a vodka thanks. He then said grumpily "you'll have to give me half hour" I said I'd ask the others and he said again grumpily "well I have to cook it" I went up and told the other three what he'd said and we agreed that we wouldn't have breakfast. This man has no people skills whatsoever and was rude and grumpy. When we left we reduced the payment we gave him from £45 to £30 per room as definitely wasn't worth the money, there were no facilities, he was rude and we didn't have breakfast. When my brother in law went into the kitchen to give him the money he didn't even turn to look at him just grunted so the money was left on the side. I think £30 per room was overpriced but felt we couldn't leave any less as we have a conscience. The 2 reviews that I read after staying there (big mistake not reviewing first) must have been written by him as they say he is friendly and the b&b is a home from home! Unfortunately I have given this one star, but think that's being generous. I wouldn't stay there again even if it was free. STEER CLEAR you have been warned!

Worst Place Ever

* Stank of cigarette smoke so much that it made me feel queasy and all my clothes stank.

*Breakfast was disgusting - never seen such a cheap sausage. Went into the kitchen (wished I hadn't) - layers of grease.

*Owner rude and without social skills.

*Damp in bedroom

*Dog locked in the owners car for most of the day and crazy when out of it.

*Price not the one advertised on the website.

*Dirty plate found under one of the beds and loads of rubbish in the drawers.

Overall, I couldn't wait to leave this place and would highly recommend that no one else ever goes there!

It does go to show that you get what you pay for...

Breakfast next morning well was put of by a boy coming in breakfast area with no pyjama bottoms on he was about 6. Never ever go there again be warned by this review.

A Depressingly Awful Experience.

Where to start with the awfulness?

Booking was a shambles. Having booked by phone several weeks before our stay we were unable to contact the owner to confirm our reservation in the week leading up to it. We tried using the online contact form twice, texted and phoned several times.

Smells: strong smell of old cigarette smoke and damp;

Sounds: On a very busy and noisy road, not in any way peaceful.

Cleanliness: Room and shower seemed clean, the odd cobweb to be seen, but ok.

Breakfast: Disconcerting to find un-soiled but used nappy lying in the middle of the floor of the breakfast area. The owner dropped a spoon on the same floor, then picked it up, wiped it with a dirty tea towel, then handed it to me for my cereal.

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: Not cheap enough.

Cotefields On The Map For Good!

Well what can I say the landlord is a star, I have stayed on a long term basis and he always accommodates you. The breakfast is very good. You can't beat a hearty morning start. The Internet is great also as working in the computer business is a must, 30mb down, 15mb up on BT infiinerty. It's very near Banbury which is great. One thing I can say is that the landlord is laugh a minute and has me in stitches when ever I see him. He even agrees that Bradford City are a great team, well I think so.
