We Stayed In The Grand Hotel In Gallivare In Decem

We stayed in the Grand Hotel in Gallivare in December 2004. What a fantastic time we had!! We could not have asked for a better Christmas away from home, and wish we could spend all our Christmas' this way!

The staff were the the friendliest we have ever encountered, and they could not do enough for us. We arrived late due to delays, and they made sure we had something to eat and that the children were OK.

The rooms were very clean and spacious, and we had everything we needed.

We will be going back again without a doubt. Gallivare is an absolutely beautiful place, and the surrounding villages and towns have a lot to offer too, such as skiing, sledging, snowboarding, Santa visits etc... We even managed to go on a Sami expedition where we went Husky Sledging through the forest, and ate Reindeer round a camp fire (the Sami way), whilst sitting on Reindeer skins (Just don't tell the children they could be potentially eating Rudolph, it may not go down too well ;). If you are not a meat eater Vegetarians are catered for too.

The towns and villages surrounding Gallivare are reminiscent of old Germany with their beamed buildings and bright colours. Beautiful!!

Most of the locals speak English, and are very forgiving if you don't speak Swedish.

A highly recommended Christmas break for anyone of any age who likes the outdoors. PS It can reach -13 (sometimes less we were told) in December (even though it didn't feel that cold), so remember to pack well. It is Swedish Lapland after all!!
