Calella, H Top Calella Palace

This was our first holiday during school summer hols for many years and it was quite a culture shock.On entering the hotel at midnight, were greeted to a wall of noise and children careering everywhere. Thought it was just me being a grumpy old person but even our 7 year old grandson commented on this.Paid for a superior room but on arrival were given a room whose balcony would not hold three chairs, complained and got moved the following day. Pool safety instructions were large and obvious however totally ignored by both guests. The lack of attention paid by most parents during our stay at this hotel was staggering, kids left to their own devices at all hours and at all ages.That said was not the hotels fault.The food for vegetarians was absolutely dreadful and after four days of having chips and cheese for my main evening meal and despite being all inclusive opted for eating out.Our 7 year old carnivores choice was not much better mostly burger chips and pizza.This is not a full list of faults at this hotel, rude rooftop barman, large queues for evening meal, cold eggs, fried only, at breakfast.However a hotel is only a small part of any holiday and would recommend Calella as a holiday resort.Decent large beach,good shopping, plenty to keep our grandson happy but please do not stay at this hotel.Praise however must be given to the bar staff who were on the whole smiling and friendly when faced by some very unmannerly guests.This is the first hotel in nearly thirty years of holiday making (from 2 star to 5 star) that I have felt strongly enough to write about.
