Esmeralda Playa

Food, rooms, location. Stayed at the Esmeralda Playa in July 08, overall good. Bad points the bar prices. I would recommend. Excellent customer service.

We had read a few good and bad reports about the Esmerelda Playa in Costa Adeje, so we arrived with an open mind.

What a delight! The hotel was spacious, clean, and with a very impressive entrance.

When we arrived we were expecting a twin room with a put up bed (for the 3 of us) with a mountain view. To our delight we had two adjoining rooms, both with a door onto the large balcony overlooking the sea! The pools were lovely, although it was a good idea to put your towels down on sun loungers after breakfast to get a good place. The hotel is on a fairly busy road (not a fast one), so I was pleased to take my ear plugs as I like a lie-in, although it didn't effect the children (15 and 13).

The food in the hotel was amazing! Breakfast offered so much and was very tasty. You could eat healthily or not. I had fruit AND a cooked breakfast. It was the same with the evening meal, and there was tons of choice, even the starters if you wanted some; like king prawns one evening, muscles another, loads of choice, chips every day, but also mash, or new potatoes etc., so it is really up to you what you want your family to have. The kids just loved it and so did I. The food was always hot and there was plenty of it.

Prices in the hotel were very expensive in the bars, so I bought a bottle of spirit on my way over and hired the fridge in the room (2 euros a day) and I am glad I did.

The beach was less than 5 minutes walk and really lovely, rough sea and fun! Great market on a Thursday and Saturday, and it is just a stones throw from the hotel.

The entertainment was fun and varied. We went to a bar along the sea-front on the last night to a snake show. It was very good. We also did some karaoke, and the blues brothers entertained us. The drinks were so much cheaper than the hotel, but if you're not fussed about drinks, the hotel entertainment was great anyway, including a circus show, magic show, and various quizzes.

All in all, I would definitely go back to this hotel. It is not in a night club area; just really great! Oh, and don't forget to go to the Aqualand water park! It is fantastic!!

Weather was in the 80's every day! Bliss!

Having read previous reviews by other guests of the Esmeralda Playa in Tenerife, we approached our holiday with quite negative expectations. We were however delighted by every aspect of our stay, particularly the food which was varied, plentiful and of good quality, completely the reverse of some of the reviews we had read.

Our only niggle was the early morning noise at about 6:30am every day coming from the lifts. We thought, being on the 9th floor, that it could have been the lift housing.

Our overall summary was that it warrants it's 4 star rating!
