Palma Nova, Hotel D'or Tobago

The hotel does not deserve a rating. We joked with other guests that it should be knocked down and rebuilt.

I stayed during December 2007. This was the worst place I had ever stayed. I could not wait to get out. I had had enough of the place and half way through my week break checked out and checked into the Santa Lucia Hotel (very nice). The holiday was ruined by this horrible smelly hotel, it was depressing. I was amazed that my wife didn't push me over the balcony. However, I managed to turn the holiday around by checking into the Santa Lucia Hotel.

The rooms were clean, but had a stale cigarette smell. The hotel also smelt of cigarettes where ever you were, in the bar, in the lounge and even in your rooms. I had to move 3 times. The electrics all went off in the first room, the balcony door lock was broken in the second room (and there was no way I was staying in there with a 2 year old child) and the third room was well better but with no toilet light (which was sorted the following day).

The food was not bad, if you got there early it was luke warm. There was a variety of food but you had to guess what it was.

The hotel staff are not helpful. They have no facilities i.e irons, etc. You have to hire them for a full week.

We went out of season and most places were closing but that was no excuse to have hardly any entertainment. Through the day they had no entertainment and in the evening very little.

I wouldn't recommend staying at this hotel. It may be cheap but it will ruin your holiday.

The Santa Lucia was great, great rooms, in door pool, great food and right on the beach with great views from the rooms.

The old Spanish guests at the Hotel D'or Tobago in Palma Nova were extremely rude, as were some of the shop keepers. If you have standards but don't have a lot of money, then stay at the AquaSol instead; that's great. Thomas Cook were also the worst tour operator to travel with.
