We Have Just Returned From A 7 Night Holiday Here
We have just returned from a 7 night holiday here and felt obliged to make our opinion available as the only reviews that we found prior to this holiday were all very good. There are 4 in our family, 2 adults and 2 kids, one 14 and one 8, we requested a top floor, two bedroomed apartment with a pool view, we got a ground floor, two bedroomed apartment with a main road view.
We read on other reviews that we may hear slight road noise, maybe if we were partially deaf we would have only heard slight road noise, in reality it was like living next door to a very, very busy dual carraigeway, day and night.
The apartment itself was very clean and although basic, well maintained. The most important part of our review has to be the horrific smell that surrounded the area, and other areas on the island, from time to time. The smell was so bad that we were unable to keep windows open at times, this made sleeping quite uncomfortable. If any window was left open prior to sleeping the smell was strong enough to wake you.
The food at the resort was good but you have to pick your moment to eat there as the smell can take your appetite away. This is a family resort but did not have a lifeguard attending the pool, in fact not many parents bothered to supervise either. There is a playground for the younger children although we witnessed a younger child using this area for his secret drinking one evening, as previously stated most children were unsupervised. During our stay a young boy fell whilst running around the pool area and broke his arm.
Expect a very noisy and very smelly holiday if you go here. If you enjoy touring around and are only looking for a place to sleep, this would not be a huge mistake but prepare yourself for the offensive smell as you make it from your apartment to the car park.
Finally I would like to add a little warning for all those with children, our young son was stung by a jellyfish at Calla D'hort, we had no idea whether or not this was serious and immediately took him back to the apartments where we were informed that it was no worse than a wasp sting. Our son seems to be unbothered by this now but we have since researched it and discovered that jellyfish get closer to shore if there has been a storm at sea during the previous night, which there had been. My advice would be to carry some antiseptic cream with you at all times and apply liberally to the sting area and surrounding skin, fortunately, we were able to do this and by the time we arrived back at our apartment, the swelling had gone down dramatically.
I disagree. I have been to these appartments twice and each time I have thoroughly enjoyed it!
There was never no such smell at all! and the staff and entertainment is great. This complex is extremely family orientated and the stff strive to be as friendly as possible!
