You Get What You Pay For.

The site itself was as advertised but, the apartments had been taken over by new owners just 3 months before my holiday. This I didn't know until I got there. When I first arrived (1am) I was taken to my apartment. I then found out that, A. The A/C switch in the fuse box was taped down in the off position. B. I had no kettle. C. the sliding doors onto the patio didn't slide.

I complained and was moved to another which had everything that I needed although if you're a tea drinker like me you need to bring mugs with you as they only supply very small coffee cups.

There are many cats roaming around. Actually there 2 adult black cats and countless kittens. They are tame and will come in if you leave the patio door open. What I did at night was left the door open and wound down the shutters which have holes in them for ventilation. Do this in day time too if you're going out to keep it cooler for your return.

Yes it was pretty basic but there are bound to be a few hitches when the new owners are starting out.

The only real bug bear was that it's a long way from Old Town which is where the action is. In othe places there is a gyro bus that takes you there and back for €1.20. It doesn't run near to this resort so that you have to get a taxi (€9.45) each way. There is a bus that is privately run to and from Bayside but it's NOT free and it's €1.75 each way. It also drops you at the far end of the town which involves a long walk down steep cobbled roads. You collect the same bus going back at the same place which of course means UP HILL. Not recommended for older or mobility impaired people I am the latter.

As I said in the title.YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

Unfortunate Opportunites Missed!

I booked a cheap week away to the Algarve. Stayed at the Bayside Salgados Golf and Beach resort, and got a bit of a shock!

Bayside... the 'Bay' does not exist.

Beach... Hasn't been developed yet.

Golf... at 65euros for a round of golf... found it to be a little expensive.

The hotel (apartments) were quite well appointed... however, the smell was a little overpowering from the drains.

I requested a beach view... I got a view of trees not 20 feet from the balcony.

I requested tea and coffee making facilities... and got the usual self-catering fare... without a kettle.

All in all it was not unpleasant, the staff were freindly and helpful, the menu was a little restricted, and it was too far away from other amenities.

But the value was very good.

When We Arrived At Bayside Salgados Apartments It

When we arrived at Bayside Salgados Apartments it was absolutely pouring with rain we were soaked and immediately confronted by one of the staff demanding 50 euro's deposit for any breakages, together with a lecture, this has never happened to us before. No one was available to help with luggage and we struggled through the swimming pool area through torrential rain. The ground floor apartment smelt and the bedding felt damp, others complained of the same thing. The rain continued for the first few days with a mini tornado and everyone had a power cut. One morning I got up at 3.30am switched the lights on, they immediately went off, it was pitch black and although there was supposed to be a 24 hour reception, no one arrived until 8.00am. It was repaired at 9am, but every time we turned the electric rings on the lights went out. This was rapidly becoming the holiday from hell. A little girl got her foot stuck by the suction in the jaccuzi, there were no warning signs. In Bayside Salgados's defence I will say that all complaints were addressed and the friendly crowd of people there more than made up for any discomfort suffered.
